i found a good deal on a zo6 cam. would it be worth it? i looked through some of the old threads, but didn't get much understanding. i'm a cam
what would be required to go along with the cam? just springs? i hear some guys still run a stock tune, or use handhelds to change fuel curves or something

Personally, I feel the LS6 cam is pointless for the 15-18 RWHP it gives you. So many better options out there, and why do it twice once you want more??
Get a smaller cam (TR224) and get enough to get close to OR even get to 400 RWHP. Just a driveable as well.
ANY cam will require valvesprings. Also a good idea to upgrade the oil pump and timing chain on some cars. Anymore, I recommend this on any F-Body as a safety type mod. You are there, they aren't that expensive, and it is piece of mind in the future.

83 Z28 new project- 98 Formula WS7-sold:(
I have a 98 also and I am doing the cam this upcoming weekend. I am doing a TSP ported LS6 oil pump, LS2 timing set, and crane dual valve springs at the same time. I have heard that the early oil pumps can go bad without notice, so I am not going to take the chance. Besides, spending 200 bucks to potentially save thousands sounds like a good investment to me.

When you sat timing chain do you mean just replace it or is there an upgrade that you can get? Also what is the average total price of everything with a 224/224 cam and what ratio rocker arms do most people use?
Sorry for hijacking your thread I just thought this would be a good place to ask.

After install and the valvesprings...I don't think so.
The price on that cam is a little lower than average, but isn't anything great. At least for that particular cam.
The install part is the hard part. If the install was cake/cheap, then hell yeah that would be a great price for 15-20RWHP.
Make it worth your time if you are going to pay for it/do it yourself.
Just my opinion. The LS6 cam works great for some that are looking for a little more power but not have the lope or driveability issues that some larger cams can have.

with a 224/224 or 228/228 how high of a stall would you need, would i even need to get a higher stall with the power range starting at 1600 rpm(according to thunder racing TH224)
Also what about valve springs
thanks

Valvesprings are plentiful. Shops will recommend all kinds of different ones.
Manley makes a good valvespring.
I would stall any car. Even a stock cammed car will gain from a larger stall. 3200 isn't all that big and it would still work nicely.

In my opinion, that is WAY too much cam then.
Let me know how it goes though. Would love to see the results.
