:help: how much power can A4 stock tranny take?
I am getting done ls2 402 block, G5X3 cam, AFR225 heads, full bolts on, they say 500-510rwhp... so the G5X3 cam needs a stall of 3000-3200 with it, so I am going with 3000. the question, is my stock A4 tranny gonna hold at 500rwhp? has anybody run on that much power with stock A4 and stall and was ok?
FYI:I am looking to build up the tranny eventually in a year or so when I get more money.

I think I would start worrying about that tranny.

hmm, I called LG Motorsports shop here in Wylie TX, and they do tranny build up for $1700 that would hold upto 600rwhp. I think I may invest in that now to be safe.

Stock 4l60E's are rated to handle 350 ft. lbs. I believe. At any rate, a stock 4l60E is not going to hold up to the motor you are fixing to put in front of it. If you choose to run a stock tranny, its on borrowed time and I hope you do get it upgraded as soon as possible.
I apologize in advance if I am telling you something you already know but didn't see any mention of it. You need to get you a good tranny cooler and I would recommend a shift kit when you have the tranny upgraded as well.

LOL, ya pewter, I didn't want to get into specifics on the trans. I was being a little sarcastic. The 4l60E's had some upgrades as the years went on, with GM trying to improve it each year. But with that kind of power an upgrade on the trans is a good idea. Larry.

i agree,do the trans.
DJ, on a sidenote, you may want to get a slightly bigger stall. the lg cam is rather big. i would go with a 3500rpm because thats going to be going right into the powerband of that cam.
i have a 3000 tci streetfighter for my 224 cam which is a perfect match although slightly bigger wouldnt hurt.
what stall company you want to use?2000 nhra edition formula
a few bolt ons, 379 rwhp

DJ, i also see you want to supercharge the car, the G5X3 cam isnt the best choice for a blower cam.
you may want to ask the supercharged guys reguarding a cam that would work perfect.

yeah the mechanic there said 3000 stall would be a good match. I'm gonna ask to see if I can bump it up to 3200 or so, I am still on stock 10 bolt so he said he doesn't want to create too much heat in the rear.
on the s/c question, I do wanna rethink that I may go with twin turbo setup in a few years... I think 700-750rwhp will be good final setup at low-medium boost

I really agree with the rear end junk that comes stock anymore.
I bought a 1999 Silverado 4x4 ext. cab new and the rear end went out
about two years after I bought it. They bought and installed a used one for me, and I was very glad. (It is a G-80). But even with periodic lube changes the rear end is still weak.

I also thought that cam required more stall than that. Why are you wanting to stay so low on the stall? Why not look at 35-3600?

Your on the right track. Been there done that. When I dropped the 408 Stroker in the GTO the trannie lasted....oh ....about 20 minutes
Went ahead and spent the $2900 bucks on a FinishLineTransmissions Stage V 4L65E ( http://finishlinetrans.com/store/pro...products_id=31 ) with a 3600 stall....Vigilante Stall lasted about....oh....another 20 minutes....got a 3500 Yank Pro Stocker stall....and all is good now....
couple of things.....Really think about a trannie cooler with a remote spin on filter.....that spin on filter saved my ass when we ate the Vigilante stall...sum bitch was full of metal....kept it from going into the trannie....the trannie cooler and remote spin on filter is about $150 bucks or less from JEGS and well worth the time and money....I mean you are investing around $2K in the trannie....cheap insurance to insure it operates at peak efficiency and last you....

still on the stock 10 bolt so the mechanic said he don't want too much heat created and 3000 stall should be in the middle. but yeah, money money money

Hey Sarge,
That is great info about the spin-on-filter.
It would be good to have that set-up just for the sake of being able to change the filter and have piece of mind about your tranny.
