01 trans am over heating
so my friend has an 01 trans am a4 ls1 and earlyer today he noticed it started over heating. it does it in the city like going down a block and on the freeway cruzing at 65mph.
We are thinkin its his water pump or a thermostat.
any other idea what can be causing this?? not sure where the thermostat is I looked in the same place that it's on my camaro not there.

Any leaks?
could very well be the thermostat, it is located on the front of the engine towards the pass side, you have to buy the thermostat and the housing as a whole (still inexpensive)

Is it fine at a stop? or do the temps start to drop? Cause if that is happening then the lower air dam has been damaged or ripped off, the black plastic thing that hand down just infront of the K member. It directs the air up to the rad, could also be that the passage way could be blocked as well.

sorry it's in the same place on my camaro. The difference is under my radiator cap a little ways down theres some type of sensor in my radiator but he doesn't have it on his I dont know if mine being a m6 and his a a4 would be something. The car over heats no matter what running or driving I was thinking either water pump or thermostat any way to check? I believe the waters pumps are designed to leak when they go bad but no leak.

I dont know man. Let me think on it. I do not know the LS1 cars that well. Try the stuff the other guys posted to. Check the coolant level in the over flow.
