Working Now Need Help

i have a 96 trans am lt1 and i am changing the rotor and cap on the optispark, how do i take it off? i have all the brackets , water pump and everything so i am down to the optispark and cant figure out how to get it off. Do i need to take the harmonic balancer off as well , and if so , if i turn it some will it throw the timing off? i am woking on it right now and need to know so i can continue
