    knock sensor

So I got my car scanned today and it came up with a knock sensor code... I know this sounds like a I big newbie question but what am I looking for in figuring out if its a knock or if the sensor is just bad? Also where r the knock sensors located on a 98 ls1?... I'm terrible with diagnostics so please go easy on me ha

the knock sensors are under the intake manifold and most likely its a bad sensor

Agreed. Water getting under the intake and deteriorating the sensors is common. You'll want to replace both.

Haha no I'm scared to get all those electronics wet on top of the engine let alone the ones that are apparently hiding under the intake now that's not to say that the old owner didn't

now should I be concerned about iy being an actual knock or is it most likely the sensor?... the motor is pretty much well untouched from factory and it has 170k on the clock

There is a gm bulletin that says when you replace your sensors you should make a dam of rtv around the holes to keep water out. Your harness is probably all corroded too. You should replace both sensors, the harness, and make dams around them to keep water out

I don't know what the actual code was when I got it taken in for inspection ur ran the code and told me that it was the knock sensor so I didn't get to see the code.... is it just one sensor or two cuz there's 2 in the picture but r they both knock sensors?
