Whining T56
Okay, after spending a grand for a clutch kit why is my tranny whining? 2001 WS6 T56. Replaced with OEM parts. Most noticeable in 1st 3rd and 5th. The shop inspected the tranny and said it was fine and replaced the fluid. Is this normal until break in. I have put 100 miles on it since the new clutch and flywheel was installed.

Was your transmission making any noise before the clutch install? If not, I'd go back again and tell them, without making a scene, that it made no noise before and now it does. If you are civil, they will be much more likely to assist you.
The noise possibly was there before they did anything, and now that you have a new clutch, could be you are hyper-sensitive to any noise. Did they use the correct fluid? Look in the owners manual, I believe it takes Dexron ATF. Yes, ATF in a manual trans.

I guess I'm old, this is the 2nd time I've passed all 9 recert tests, I made Master sometime in the early 90s before the L1 came along. This certification, I believe strongly, helped me to get another job when the ecnonmy tanked last Spring and Goodyear decided they couldn't afford me anymore, after I worked over 20 years at the same location. 5 weeks vacation, POOF!
I was unemployed for 3 days, how many people can get strong offers from 4 companies that quick, especially last May?

Update! I got a call and he stopped by my house and left a note on my door from the transmission shop. He said and I quote "We left a critical bolt out of you car and have to drop the back of the transmission to put it back in." I don't know if it has anything to do with the whining, but critical bolt WTF? I might just be being sensitive about the whining though. I checked before he serviced the tranny to make sure he knew what fluid to put in it also. Will post results.

Okay, the mechanic left out a bolt that holds the shifter down into the tranny. No more whine and it shifts a lot better. I guess he took it out when he was inspecting the gears? Never the less I am back on the road.
