Stripped torque converter bolt
Guys i have a stripped torque converter bolt and it has blue locktight on it. its a 99, formula, it is hard enough to get to the bolts through the starter hole and the inspection hole is too small to do anything through, anyone have any suggestions its the factory allen head bolt too and its in bad shape the hole is almost round. Installing a 3500 stall if i can get the bolt out, also is there any other bolts that can be used insted of this crap, i have read about problems with regular metric hex head bolts. thanks .

I agree...but be very carefull not to damage the flywheel.
if your pulling the trany anyway, carefully slide the tranny out of the converter. once the tranny is out it will be easier to get to the bolts.
take your new converter to Lowes hardware store and get regular grade 8 bolts for it.....most converters are 10mm x 1.5 but if you have the converter on hand you can be sure......some take 7/16" bolts. if yours take the 7/16" bolts check to be sure they will slide in the flywheel holes, I had to file one of my holes alittle to get them to fit....alot easier to do with the tranny out

is it possible to slide the tranny off the torque converter without pulling the engine and tranny out? i dont think there is enough room between the firewall and bellhousing to clear the converter or is there?? i dont want to pull the engine again, just drop the tranny and change the converter.

its tight, but might need to jack the front of the motor up alittle but the tranny will slide right out.....the top center tranny bolt is a PITA but the others are easy. becarefull that's a heavy SOB. I'd put the new converter in the tranny first then slide the tranny in so you don't crush any internals in the converter.....when its in right and the tranny and motor are bolted together there should be 1/2" gap between converter and flywheel. just spin the coverter so the 3 bolt holes lineup and start all 3 bolts before you tighten them

You can try a set of vise grips if you need. If you file a little on either side of the head to square it up it might help a little.

i used a set of drill bits to cut the heads off the last ones that gave me trouble. the hard part of pulling the convertor while its attached to the flywheel because it might damage the pump
