How difficult is it to change carriers and is it worth it? Also, is there a slide hammer needed to get the old bearings and seals out?

Some come out pretty easy, others require a slide hammer. They make bearing pullers that are hinged to go through the center of the bearing.

Ok, going to tear into this tomorrow. After doing some more digging on other doing the same things, I have seen some mention of the spider gears falling out. Is that something I need to worry about?

Wasn't an issue when I pulled the axles on our car.

On our 12 bolt, the passenger side seal leaked on me after about 2 years. I replaced it last year and have had no issues. Little bit different setup than the stock axle though.

Depends on your carrier. The Auburn works better than the Torsen so it could be beneficial. Slide hammer is really only needed for the axle bearings. If you're getting a new carrier just get new carrier bearings instead of trying to remove them from the old.carrier. More than likely they won't survive removal anyway.

Ok, finally getting to do this. Looking for clarification. The TCS sensor, there is one on each side? On the backing plate where the caliper brace is?

Ok, so how do I know if I have 3 channel ABS or 4 channel ABS?
Moser Part Numbers:
MSR-A-102805 (3 Channel)
MSR-A-102806 (4 Channel)
Come to find out I have a 4 Channel ABS System by having a ABS Sensor on each rear wheel.Last edited by bhunter0830; 03-30-2013 at 11:03 AM. Reason: Found answer

Axles are scored. Are you doing a full rear end swap?

If you have traction control, there are sensors at each axle out by the wheel. If you do not have traction control, there is only one sensor on the differential housing above the ring gear.

If you have the stock 10 bolt, some will advise going with a 12 bolt swap.

No problem with the 10 bolt. It gets driven 6 moths out of the year, hits the track maybe 2-3 times a year at best. I do all of the maintenance and it hasn't been molested. Unless it grenades on me (knock on wood) ill stay with it. I have a donar car and a ls6 block in storage I'm going to start building up this summer. That will get a 12 bolt.

Does anyone know how to get the reluctor ring off the old axles or just beat them off? Also, do they need to be pressed back in or just pounded on?
