SUBARU (if I had to)
Reason: Subaru is owned by Fuji Heavy Industries, which until last year was owned 42% or so by General Motors. I'm a huge GM loyalist. Oh, and I think the 2005 WRX STi (not to be confused with the newer STI which came with the newer , uglier face) would be an awesome winter commuter car.

Yeah a lot of people LOVE Volkswagens. I do not know why. They are probably the most unreliable new cars EVER. They are a nightmare to work on as well and the parts for them are ridiculously expensive. Horrible quality. My sister had a Beetle (shes 20) and one of my other sisters (31) has a GTI. All they do is break and they are relatively brand new..?

The Germans make some damn nice cars. They have their issues of course, but overall they are some world class vehicles. They know the right formulas for performance, twin turbo 6 cylinders, V8's, even their turbo 4 cylinders are designed so that the turbo spools at 1800RPM for increased low end, unlike 3,000 or 4,000RPM like Japanese 4 bangers. Most of their cars are RWD or AWD, too. Downsides are parts are espensive, they can be a real bitch to work on, and they have some reliability issues. Thats common for most imports though.

I have 2 VW's in the family, Im actually talking from experience with reliability. A good amount of my friends have VW's too. There is a huge following of them down in this area. Also, my other sister has a 2006 Audi A4 which is very nice and high quality. They seem to not have the reliability issues of the VWs. Looks are subjective, I wasnt talking about the way VW looked. Although, not a big fan of my sisters Beetle

I told her I'll buy her a Beetle 'vert, and we'll even get a pink one or paint it that way. One stipulation: I get a winter alone with the car... in the garage.

Yes, they provide low end power because their turbos are the size of a blow dryer and make 200hp.
A car with some low end power and thats pretty awesome is the BMW 335i. It is a 3.0L 6cyl twin turbo. Makes max toruqe from 1500rpm to 5000rpm. They put down around 280whp stock, (only rated 300hp though!) and with a flash are making over 350! They start at 40k though...

Red- 2000 Trans Am
As for the subaru comment, they suck, if you want to do anything to the motor you cant get at anything literally, they are horrible cars if you want to go past bolt ons.
