That's true. When you start modifying a car it goes faster (hopefully, unless you are talking about putting in a turbonater or a Slowmaster muffler!).
Anyone can take a car and change it to how they want it to be.
I am saying if you take a stock AT car vs. stock MT car, almost always the MT is quicker with better gas MPG.

well you can compare it to a stock car with a stock muffler and only see 1 hp or 2 loss if any, but when you add headers, new manifold, or even H/c that 1 hp loss could be a 10 hp loss if you dont have a good cat back or muffler on it whcih flows.
this is should be in a different thread

3rd gear is a bitch with the stock Hurst shifter. Often times you'll either hit the gate and miss the gear completely, or end up in 5th gear.
I upgraded my stock Hurst to a Pro 5.0, no more problems hitting 3rd. Just point and shoot, and it slides right in no matter how fast you're shifting

This just isnt so. There is a trans am here in Florida that has made hundreds of low 9 second passes(a 9 even I believe) with a 4l60e that the guy built himself. The car takes off HARD- so hard it has dragged the rear bumper before. The cars driver (the guys wife) is a member here-LS1Queen.

I put down 410 to the wheels (on a blown torque converter) and that car gets its guts kicked out. The only reason I had to rebuild the tranny (now good for up to 850 hp
) is because the converter leaked so bad. I'll never change it out... I'll run 10.50s all day on a built 10 bolt too.

Im still on the stock 4L60e (36000 miles). only thing i did was put a trans go shift kit and a tranny cooler in. i cut 1.4x 60's and run 10.80,s. oh yea still on the stock untouched 10 bolt too!

i had a 94 formula m6 loved it . . . i now have a 99 SS its an A4 its a fun car but the auto gets boring after awhile eventually i may convert to the m6 . . . only reason i got the a4 was lack of m6's for sale at the time. . . after i put in my stall it may be fun again. . .

I am going to buy a m6 soon if things go right. I bought the auto cause of my back surgery but I think I can handle a stick again.

i have nothing wrong with autos.. just personally i dont feel in control so all my cars have been manual... if i were to build a dedicated drag car i would probably do auto if i go into the 10's

Well , back in the nineties I just had to have a 5-speed 5.0 Stang convertible . Bought a 94 creampuff loaded out with every option. AFR heads ,306 c.i.d.,headers/off road H-pipe, pro 5.0 shifter, edelbrock intake/big throttle body, MSD Pro-Billet distrbutor/& ignition with glass-pacs. Loved it .Ran low to mid 13's on street tires,a decent ride. Many many good races. One day I found myself next to a beautiful black WS6 with automatic. When the light changed I cut a perfect start just hazing the tires & so did he. I then power shifted through all the gears perfectly right at 6250 RPM. We ran as if our fenders were welded together , all the way thru 4 gears, probably about 105MPH. My top was down & his tee-tops were off. As I glanced over after slamming second gear he looked like he was just takin a sunday cruise while I'm over here jerkin gears like a mad man . It was an even race ,all the way. The only difference was I was havin to work my ass off while he on the other hand was kicked back smokin a weed. Thats when I decided I was gonna get me a fast automatic & be cool like him.Wanna race? No sweat ! Just stab & steer. Don't have to worry about missin third gear or anything else really, just enjoy the race & watch the other guy with the manual work his ass off .Its a lot easier to banzi out of the hole with an automatic.Thats way guys with manuals always want to PUNCH from a roll.

i think i've owned maybe 2 auto vehicles wouldn't have it if it wasn't a stick.
i think i've missed a shift twice in my car, got a b&M style shifter compared to a ball shifter
my friend with a shift kit had nothing on me from a 35 roll
m6 FTW

The M6 is the best to me. Having a auto in a sports car to me is like have training wheels on a bike. When you race with a auto, your racing the car mostly, but when you race a manual, your racing the car and driver.
I love the control of the manual and MPG to boot. Nothing says hello like down shifting or the ease of revving up to a pony car. (You sure as hell do not want to blow the sissy ass factory horn, I did once and it was also the last time. It was the only time I was embarrassed to be in my car. WTF was GM thinking??)
I'm not knocking auto's, they do have their perks. I don't drag race professionally, and if I did, I would have a auto for the consistency.
As far as a solid answer to which is best (universally), there is no right answer. It is a matter of your application, ability, and personal likes. I am blessed to have no physical disabilities to keep me from driving a manual and to be more than a steering wheel holder. I love the challenge of the manual and the fact that the power is in my hand. I believe we all can agree to disagree. But my personal vote is manual ATW.

Thanks for info Too Fast. I bought the car used in 99 with around 20K on it, I guess I assumed that the horn was working fine since it was almost like new. I'm glad to know GM didn't do that on purpose but sad to know what shitty horns they did put on it though. But at least I got a LS1

M6 for me it just makes you feel like you are one with the car. Also I think that everyone 16-18 has to drive stick so they can't be talking on teh phone or doing makup or being complete
