Auto for drag strip only. Manual for everything else. We all know that the M6 is the best!

Now that my Z28 is becoming less of a real street car and I am pining for a C5/C6, I kind of wish it was an auto. When I buy the new M6 Vette, the Camaro will start to be a track sled and that is where the A4 shines. Less driveline shock, stall, consistency, etc...

I'm waiting to hear if anyone is going to do a A6 swap for the f-body's of if it can be done. I think that would be huge for the auto guys.

    If you get a C5 make sure it's a Z06 otherwise get the C6.

I heard the A6 is way too big to fit in our cars, and we'd have to make a whole new transmission tunnel to fit it.

Well now doesn't that suck! I think fabing up a tunnel would be worth it.

Clutches are alot easier than rebuilding a trans!!!
And don't change the fluid in that Jeep. That fluid is the only thing keeping it still working since you neglected changing the fluid.

well, consider for a second what you just said. you drive a jeep. vastly different than an f body in every way. i had an 86 toyota pickup 4 speed. 190,000 miles on the factory clutch. i didnt go launching it and drag racing.

tell me what kind of transmission you think they are running 9s with. this is where you auto guys sometimes get misguided.

a 4l60e isnt going into the 9s. it isnt going into the 10s. it may go into the 11s. that transmission is weak. usually people source a 4l80e for starters. then as they go faster they ditch the 4 speed for a th 400 or a powerglide. faster than that they ditch those for liberty hybrid transmissions that i have little idea how they work. the 4l60e isnt going to go that far at all.

the t56 however can get rebuilt and be good deep into the 10s, and 9s im not sure about. sure it gets expensive blowing clutches on 10 second passes but that has little to do with the transmission.

either way, the debate rages on. i dont think there is a right answer, i'd take an auto in an ls1 if that was all i could find and make it work. whats important is the ls1 under the hood.

In the decades that I have been reading Road and Track, automatic cars are 99.5% of the time .2-.5 second slower than the manual trans cars. I do agree an auto is more consistent at the drag strip, but not faster.

I bought mine for the fun factor and MPG. not to mention the fact that its a challenge to master it at the track. I like being able to control my car in this area

I'm so sick of people thinking my car is slow because it's an auto. the first thing guys ask is "is it a stick", and I say no, and they ask why not. Then they tell me that I'm not manly because I bought an auto. then they drive around in their hondas with shitty manuals. oh well, I tell them my car has around 345 HP and they shut up.

M6 for me - better mileage and a lot more fun to drive (not necessarily faster with me driving...). But, you MUST get a skip shift eliminator installed - very frustrating until you do

not to hate i fell like the automatic army around here but you say auto are that slow. if you go to some races most of the time m6's will bitch before the race about autos. i admit some can really drive a stick but most dont. they wont win 10 out of 10 probly half. but even after all this talk if you want to dominate get a stall convertor and then youll be sure your over a 1/2 sec then any stock f body. auto or M6......
