tap the gas and continue accelerating?
Does the sound dissapear as you accelerate?
Does it only occur in fourth @ 2000 or any gear at 2000?

my brothers 99 TA did a whining noise like that -but it was kinda steady noise and it was even when cruising and accelerating.... his rearend was going out..... Sure hope that isn't your problem. (although it's an excuse for new gears ).

i seriously think mine has something to do with the exhaust. i don't hear it all the time though. it'll be awhile before i get my car done to track down that problem but y'all let me know if you figure it out.

I have had the same problem ever since I got my car a few months back (I have a stock exhaust setup). I'm beginning to get used to it, but after carefull consideration, I think its the noise of the stock muffler squeezing down on the exhaust being shot out (restricting the flow). In another words, if you had no muffler at all, the noise would be non-existant (although much louder in a tottaly different way). Whenever I hear that noise, I just step back down on the throttle, make it dissapear, and pretend I have an aftermarket exhaust setup with better flow.

i braught my car to the shop to have new gears put in and he said it was either the bearing or the pinion and the posi was in pieces so 550 bucks later its fixed with a set of 3.73's

$550????????????
Um, Im no expert, but that seems like a lot of money for somthing like that. Considering whoever "fixed" it dident know what exactly was wrong with it. Maybe im just cheap, I dunno.

no it was for the part + the gear install so actally it was cheap cause the part was 225 and the gear instalation kit was 100 so it was a good price
