Starting Issue

Vehicle is my Dad's work truck, 2003 Express 3500 6.0L.

It has been having strange starting issues. The starter sometimes hangs up after starting, so he installed a brand new Delco Remy starter. Does the same thing. However, I've read that its somewhat normal to have starter overrun on some of the newer GM trucks, since the ECU controls the starter.

Other problem is there is a delay or no start condition sometimes when the key is turned. For example, you will turn the key and hold it, and after about 1 second, the starter will engage. Other times you turn the key over, and nothing happends at all. But if you turn it off and right back on again, it will start right up. Grounds and wiring have all been checked, and like I said, starter is brand new.

Any help is appreciated.

Ignition swich possibly? my G6 will "hang the starter" sometimes and I think the key switch is sticking.

Thats what I'm thinking. That seems like the only thing that would make it not send power down to the starter when the key is fully turned. If you turn the ignition off and back on again, this far it has always started right up.
