I love how people act when some old hack has been doing something for 30 years. Being wrong for 30 years is a sign of sheer stupidity that might require some government intervention.
I was bored at work one day and was hanging out with a 45 year old man who had been a mechanic all his life. He was doing an alignment on a Hyundai Elantra. He had the shop helper put 44 lbs of pressure in each tire. I asked him why he did that and he got PISSED.
He asked me if I was stupid and if I could read, because it said the pressure on the tire. I said "it says MAX you fucking idiot" and he got mad and said he forgot more about cars than I have ever learned.
I said "no shit, you might want to go back to school and learn all over again before you kill someone"
He didn't like that. ha ha.
On topic, your girlfriend is an idiot and so is her father.
Oh yeah, this same mechanic did some suspension work on a Santa Fe and the car went home. It got towed in an hour later with the front wheel half off of the car. The lower ball joint had come free of the control arm.
We looked at it and there wasn't a bolt in the hole and looked as though there had never been one as it was a new control arm and there wasn't a mark anywhere on the surface of the control arm.
The "mechanic" says he couldn't have left it out because he didn't have any bolts left over on his tool cart. I looked across the shop to the hoist and said "could it be that bolt sitting on the arm of the lift?"........PRICELESS

I've always inflated my tires to the maximum pressure of the tire and not what's on the door jamb. My reasons are simply because I will get better gas mileage, better handling, a cooler running tire, and it's easier on your steering components (tie rods, power steering pump, and the frame area where the steering box mounts to won't be as stressed). The max pressure that the manufacturer sets is more so you get the best possible balance of ride/fuel economy/and handling for the car. FWIW I'm 26 and have been practicing this since I've been driving. I'd tend to side with your girlfriend's old man.

I kind of have to agree (almost).
Different tires may call for different PSI , I never inflate to the max but usually go to about 5 PSI under. Sometimes a little less and sometimes a little more, depending on time of year.
For example my original truck tires called for a different PSI level then my current ones.

Also, the odds of having a blow out on a tire that's filled to max is pretty slim unless you're running in 100 degree heat at high speeds. Realistically if the tire is slightly over inflated it'll just wear differently.

Mine are always at 15 PSI... If its any higher theres not enough traction for the amazing power of the engine to hook up, even during normal driving.

when talking about cars or ANY man subject it is your mother fucking DUTY to prove your gf wrong when she argues with u.....i dont care where she got the information from......pull it up on the net what the correct tire pressure should be and show it to her

Naturally she will protect her dad, but you should ask her why she had you check if she doesn't trust you. turn the tables on her but come off as sorry.

Her tires will be fine at the PSI she wants them to be at. Yes as the tire gets warmer the pressure will increase because the air molecules travel faster inside the tire, but does not mean the tire will burst. Most tires blow out when the PSI is low because the tire has more friction because of the greater surface area touching the road causing a lot of heat.
Here's something to think about, My bosses Mini Couper says to inflate the tires to 35 PSI if you are to travel at 70 MPH. Then it says to inflate the tires to 45 PSI if you are going to travel at higher speeds around 80 MPH or so.
Again this is because there would be less heat causing friction on the tires. They may not know what they are doing but leaving them at 44 PSI is not a bad thing.

Speaking of pissing off girlfriends, I got this message from mine today:
so let me just start off by saying that I think you are truly homosexual
publically saying "I miss you" is weird enough for you...but its not even being said to me..its to [Male friend]! eww you guys are gay with each other
I do not think I can continue this relationship..I don't want to get in the way of true love
good luck in life Jason
