Its got to be a socket/and/or a bad bulb... if he didnt put double filament bulbs in that would be the problem as well.. reverse lights have to be double filament

Reverse Lights are SINGLE filaments........... 3156.
Tail, Stop, Turn are the DOUBLE filaments... 3157.
(earlier cars/trucks used the 11 series bulbs instead of the 31 series,
the difference is the 11 series have a round gold colored base with the contacts on the bottom & they push in and twist to lock, the 31 series has a flat plastic base with wirelike contacts on the side, and is a straight push design. more like an electrical plug.)

you've got some other problem then, cuz the reverse lights and turn signals are unrelated except for the rear harness ground

ya I agree, but it was cheap so i just replaced it. And I chased down all my wires and connections and they were fine. I guess I will have to wait until there not working again and use voltage meter or ohm meter. Oh and also I have a question, right above the break switch there is a another switch. I know its not related , but what does that do?

the wing light is on a diffrent ckt. the brake lights go through the multi function switch for the turn sig. bulb is the same and there is a diode built in so you dont have feedback to the other lights try messing with the flasher and jiggle the turn switch at the same time some times that works for diag. reasons. gm and ford has these problems alot.

The wing light is on the same trigger switch as the main brake lights... But this multifunction switch DOES exist, and only the main brakelights are routed thru it. If you have good steady parking lights, then you can almost rull out the ground as the problem. Do the hazard lights work???

If The hazards work, then that will confirm the rear wiring is ok b/c the hazards light the same bulbs as the brakes and turn signals... and if the wing light works, that confirms that the brake lamp trigger switch is acting. Leaving one to assume it almost has to be the M/F switch tctech1 mentioned.

When this happened to me it was due to a short on a wire.
