Ford Explorer owners: U-Haul has chosen not to rent behind this tow vehicle based on our history of excessive costs in defending lawsuits involving Ford Explorer towing combinations. This policy is not related to safety issues. This is an unusual circumstance for U-Haul – we have built our success for over 59 years by saying "yes" to our customers, and do not like saying "no" instead. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and are committed to working with our customers to find alternative options to help with their move. Please contact 1-800-GO-UHAUL (1-800-468-4285) for assistance with alternative options.

Holy shit, what's up Alex?! Nothing at all, traded it for a 2000 Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS coupe, then sold that and bought and sold like four cars since. Almost got into another F-Body recently. How've you been? How's the car?
So any other suggestions?

the car is good. She is going under the knife in the winter to prepare her for mid 10 sec runs.
I know for a fact that early astro vans had fuel pump and electrical problems. May I sudgest early to mid 90's tahoes. Those hoes are durable and if you are lucky you can get a ex-police hoe with all the heavy duty goodies.
When you are looking for a big vehical for daily driving and towing capabilities, don't bother looking to save on gas. Never going to happen.

That's cool, what's your fastest E/T to date? My car is going under the knife this winter, aiming for high 600fwhp.
I am still half tempted to sell it and build a LS1 TT car.
Well, I may look into Jeeps. I will check into those Tahoes, depends on what I can find under $2000. I know about gas, but a truck that gets 14-20mpg versus 8-14mpg is pretty big coming from a 35mpg car, so every mile counts, haha.Last edited by compuvision02; 10-20-2007 at 09:45 AM.

Buy it, put a fart pipe, some 20's and a lot of homo rice stickers and you will be the envy of all your friends when you show up at the track with a Honda in tow.

The V6 in the old astro can barely move the van without towing. i'd 2nd the older tahoe or even the old full size blazer. the 88+ with the 5.7L fuel injection can get 18+ mpg on the highway and will tow a car trailer no problem. pre 92 is the older bodystyle and can be found cheap and are cheap to maintain. the 88 i have now has been with me for about 7 years and no problems towing my car on a flatbed trailer. towing i'd get about 10-11mpg. you will get the same if not worse from an underpowered small tow vehicle because those torquless little motors will be working overtime to pull a trailer. The 92+ version of the blazer/jimmy now renamed tahoe/yukon tend to be a little pricier but ride a little better with the IFS and have more creature comforts.

Um, okay, pointless post, but thanks for the useless input.

Do they have the same 5.7L motor? I sort of figured that the gas mileage when towing would be worse on a smaller motor, but it's all good. I may just try and buy a truck cheap and insure it, but keep the four door as a daily.

Not bad for only getting two runs in and never driving anything like that from a stop before. Shifting came up so fast. On the street, I don't give much throttle under 70mph, anything under that just spins, so going from first in wide open throttle was a completely different feeling. I am going to try and go one more time before tearing it apart for the winter so I can improve my times and get some more seat time. I am aiming for mid 140 trap speeds.

the 5.7L is basicly the same up to 96 when they switched to the vortec 5.7L.
the only thing i would suggest is installing a large tranny cooler, you never have too much cooling for the tranny when towing. some of these K5 blazer/jimmy trucks came with a diesel that, while not the best diesel out there compared to todays trucks, will give great fuel economy. i test drove one years ago before i knew better and did not buy it.

though you cant hear..- i love you sweet leaf!!!
.....i own an 87 voyager..... im no molester.... lol......

naw i think a nice vehicle for you would be a jeep grand, with the 4.7 power tech, or a dodge darango, same eng, or posible a Hemi... but that is chrysler.. get a better vehicle but cost is up there..... what you aota do is get a v6 accord 6 speed and give it a rear lift kit (like 2 inch) and stiff rear suspension, bigger tires like 225 insteed of the 215's..that would suit you well, look cool, get good mpg (even towing) and would match your civic... and the accords have plenty of power... (v6 6 speed)
