new personal best...worn brakes
I'm doing a brake job for someone over the weekend while they're out of town. I started tearing the car down tonight. It's a POS 92 Camry. The chick works with my wife and has a dead beat loser husband. Smokes dope and never has a job. The thing that got me right from the beginning is he's a diesel mechanic when he does work so why ain't he doing the brakes? Probably interferes with his pot smoking. Anyhow, I take the first caliper and rotor off and find this. Now this lady has been driving her child around in this car and works 2 jobs an hour from where she lives. The inside pad was gone. I don't mean worn out real bad....... I mean gone as in missing. The piston on the caliper was the only thing touching the rotor. I lose faith in people a little more each day. At what point do you say " My brakes sound bad"? Because brakes don't get like this overnight.

I'll replace that caliper. $69 because they were too stupid to do these brakes at least 6 months ago. I bet they've been dragging longer than that. I've seen them down to the backing plates and the rivets had drug but I've never seen one eat up a piston like that.
Yeah, derrinx. It has disc on front drums on back. I'm not even taking the drums off the back. You only get so much work out of me for $50.I was doing this more as a favor to my wife than anything because she knows what a dead beat this chick is marrried to and they're hurting for money. She'd be looking at probably $400 at a shop. I'll do it for a $210 with parts and 50 for labor.

I went and pulled the drivers side real quick. It's much better than the passenger side. Looks like I'll just have to replace the one caliper and bleed the brakes which I hate doing. Just time consuming and a PIA to do, not to mention rusty bleeder screws. I'll soak them down with pb blaster tonight and hopefully that'll make things go smoother tomorrow. I'm betting that ain't a split master cylinder too and I'll have to bleed all 4 wheels.

how is that even possible??? That's definitely worse than these here. WOW, I can't believe some people would take the risk with the most critical part on the whole car.

yea i kept a set of rotors like that at my work because it was just hilarious. most people that let their brakes go that far bad dont even know that their bad. they just change the oil and thats it.
the majority of the public tho will pay to have their AC fixed before they do a brake job.

I would normally agree with you there except this chicks husband is a diesel mechanic. There's no way in hell he didn't know these brakes were shot. Why would you let your wife drive your kid around with brakes like that? I would like to just blame it on him being a dope head and general POS but I also know the story I'm getting is from his wife to my wife then to me. There's always 2 sides to the story and I'm getting the second version through my wife.
Women stick together on that and your wifes friend is your worst enemy as a husband.

I guess. I gave the guy the benefit of the doubt for a while but this doesn't look good in his favor.
I always figured the guy probably got caught toking one in the garage and by the time the story made it to my house he was the next Nino Brown from New Jack City.
