Bilstein HD shocks vs SLP Bilstein Ultra shocks
Is there a difference between the Bilstein HD shocks and the SLP Bilstein Ultra shocks?
Thanks,
Jim

I have the SLP Bilstein shocks, the ones from the "Bilstein" package. SLP claims that the shocks are specially valved to their specs by Bilstein and are actually 'softer' than Bilstein's normal HD shocks. They claim that softening the valving slightly helps increase the suspension compliance which will give you better handling. Obviously I can't compare the SLP shocks with Bilstein's standard HD's but I can tell you they're far better than the factory shocks both in handling and ride.

Pewter- all bore 370 Trans Am
the slp's are vavled to go with the slp springs on the SS and firehawks. they lower the car i believe and since the HD's arent made for lowered cars, SLP just had them revalved.

01-26-2006, 09:21 PM #6No, it's not the shocks that can't be used but the fact that the valving of the shocks might not be right for your springs. Ask Sam Strano. The shock manufacturer takes into account the amount of total suspension travel that's built into your car. When the car bottoms out, it'll hit the bump stops and that's as low as she'll ever go normally. Shocks aren't designed to be suspension stops. If your car bottomed out and the shocks stopped the undercarriage from contacting the pavement you'd be looking at a lot of expensive repairs. The real world ain't no "Fast & Furious" - that BS only happens in the movies.
