My life is a- Ben Stiller movie.
simple math
wow...some people should NOT be accountants.
We mark up printing costs 25% as a handling and prep fee for the press. For some reason, my accounting person thinks we should take the figure [in this case, $1190] and divide it by .75 to get a 25% increase. I said YOU ARE DEAD ASS WRONG! she said "we've been doing that for years" and i said "then you've been price gouging the clients for years!"
simple equation: 1190 x 1.25 = 1490 [rounded up]
her version 1190 / .75 = 1587
proof: 1190 / 4 = 297.5
297.5 + 1190 = 1490 [rounded up]

My life is a- Ben Stiller movie.
oh, hilarious...i just got her 'reasoning'
1190 /.75 = 1586
.25 x 1586 = 396
1190 + 396 = 1586
sooooo we've not only gouged the client, but also COMPLETELY changed the original number.

here is who you need to do your accounting.

He can count to infinity and divide by zero. Also if the numbers don't come out right he will pound them into submission until they are right.

What she was suggesting is “grossing up”. I see it occasionally when looking at payroll when employers do not want employees responsible for tax on non-cash bonuses.

Burple- 1966 427 Cobra Replica
She's calculating a 25% margin in lieu of a 25% markup. Pretty standard actually.
