Luke, are you asking how to convert a 3 channel (ABS only) rear, a 4 channel (ABS & ASR) rear?
If so, I had to do this when I swapped rears in my 2000 (equipped with ASR & ABS).
You have to swap backing plates and axles.
I simply used a "drum sander", which is pretty much a big dremel, to get the 1/2" or so of clearance the rear parts axle flanges needed so that the 2 wheel sensors could be installed. I also had to swap in the right axles, which have the reluctor wheels, since the non-ASR axles don't have the reluctors.
If you PM me an email address, I have pics of both rears (and axle sets) so that you can see the differences...and where the 3 channel needs to be clearanced.Last edited by rel3rd; 10-19-2007 at 03:37 PM.

are you reffering to the above post when i mod it? or just slap it in and switch the axles, i thought you had to drill on the rear to get the sensor in or sometihng like taht,
the guy above sent me a bunch of helpfull pics and i now see what the differeance is when you have asr

Traction Control (ASR) rears are NOT the same as ABS only rears.
ABS rear (aka 3 channel) has one sensor for antilock brakes that is actually threaded into the top of the axle housing, and the reluctor wheel is pressed onto the carrier right next to the ring gear.
ASR (aka 4 channel or traction control) has one sensor on each backing plate, and a reluctor wheel pressed onto each axle.
The 3 channel rear has a square flange that the backing plate bolts onto.
The 4 channel rear has axle flanges that are factory shaped to clear the wheel speed sensors.
3 channel axles have no reluctor wheels on them.
4 channel axles have reluctor wheels on them.
To make a (ABS only) 3 channel rear work in a (ABS/ASR) 4 channel rear you need to clearance the axle flanges so that the proper backing plates can be bolted on. You also need to swap to the 4 channel axleshafts.
Anybody else that is confused, I can email pics of the obvious differences in the two...

Are you saying those particular cars already had the flanges that would allow the backing plate to accept a wheel speed sensor on both backing plates? Or that the ones you refer to have a total of 4 wheel sensors regardless of ASR option or not? Supposedly since all of the F bodies have two front sensors, the difference between 4 and 3 "channels", is whether it has ABS and one rear sensor on top of the axle housing to pick up signal from ring gear, or ABS and ASR and two rear wheel sensor
Here's a pic of the housing end flange out of my 2000 (which is ASR/ABS equipped):
Here's a stock 3 channel (ABS only) housing end flange (before I clearanced it for wheel speed sensor):
Stock 3 channel axleshaft:
Stock 4 channel axleshaft:
Bottom line is this...
If your axle flanges are not clearanced or shaped like the top picture shows, than the wheel sensors will not clear them and will not bolt into the backing plates.Last edited by rel3rd; 10-23-2007 at 11:16 AM.

All I see are red X's!
I have a 3 channel and a 4 channel rear at home. I converted my 3 channel rear out of my 97 to work in a 98 w/ 4 channels. I already know what it all looks like. I want you to show me a 99 or newer rear that has the 3 channel setup?
