Rear End Fluid Capacity

Anyone know from experience approximately how much fluid the rear ends hold? I'm not sure if I read it right but I thought my Helms manual said the diff would hold about 1.5 quarts. I am thiking the manual meant only the diff and not the axles because I dumped in 2 full quarts as well as the 4 oz of limited slip additive and its still not up to the fill plug. I also have TA girdle which is supposed to hold a little more fluid than the stock diff cover. I need to know how much more oil to buy. Thanks.

Only use the fill plug that is on the rearend housing. I have seen many people use the fill plug that is higher than the OEM plug and seen axle seals leak more and excessive blow by/fluid come out of the vent on the housing.

^ That is just my experience. I am running the same cover and always use the OEM fill plug and have never had an issue nor have I had an issue with any of the other rearends that I have built.

I put about 2.5 quarts in mine with a TA girdle on there.

That's rediculous. You must have used the fill plug on the girdle. You're supposed to use the one on the axle housing. I have a Strange 12 bolt and it still takes less than 2 quarts. I'd drain and refill if I were you.
