Best Laptop
Well, I'm looking for a new laptop. I just need something that's on the smaller/lighter side (taking it to class), won't screw up a ton, performs well, and can handle a ton of music/movies. Any input is great, thanks!

Why don't you try a Mac?
Check it out http://www.apple.com/macbook/
plus, if you are a student you will get the student discount. You can run XPee or OSX on it. It's like having 2 computers. Plus it will be able to handle what you need it to handle.

Thanks for the help! I've thought about trying a mac, and the student discount would be nice. I guess I just don't know enough about them yet to really have started looking at them.
My brother actually got the smallest pavilion, whichever that is... I think the 2000? Anyway, the screen is really nice. I like the widescreen on it. I have a Toshiba convertible tablet right now, and I just need something lighter than this one. This thing is a chunk.

www.newegg.com
The best place for electronics, cheapest prices I have found and there and reviews from people that have bought the item. I haven't bought a laptop from them but they have a huge damn selection. Specs on all of 'em and the reviews help a LOT.
EDIT:
Just from a quick search I found this one...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220037
Good reviews, only 6.5 pounds, 100GB Hard Drive 1GB DDR2 Ram for your music...
4 Hour Battery
15.4" screen, may be a little small, may be just right - thats up to you
It's discounted right now so its under 1000 bucks...
That's my pick

Boxx Technologies.... best computers and notebooks around. However the notebooks are more of a mobile workstation then anything else and they are expensive.

i got one of those emachine deals at walmart. it was 630 after tax. you get a 128mb thumb drive, backpack, 2yr anti virus, 2yr lojack service. the laptop has a 14" monitor. 512mb ram 50gb HDD dvd/cd burner. nvidia geforce 6100 video card. 256mb shared.
i use it for games. while it definately needs a ram upgrade and a large external hard drive, it's pretty sweet. it plays most of my games fast, and pretty flawlessly. however Microsoft flight simulator X is a little slow. but it's also a 14GB game.
I play CNC generals, and there's no problems with skipping, or video delays.
i have most of my HDD taken up by music right now. that's why i say you need a decent size external for tons of music. you can still put a good amount on there, but that's all you'll really have room for.

Do the Mac. They are pricey, but worth it.

Get a New Macbook, you'll learn OS X in a week.
No threat of Viruses or Spyware.
I run Paralles and it lets you run Windows, like an application in OS X, incase you have software that only runs on windows.
With Apple Care (4 year protection) you're looking at under $1600

I think I'm going to end up with one from the HP dv series... unless anyone knows a reason I shouldn't. I want a mac, but they've got a good $500 on the HP I'm looking at, so it's a little hard to swing that by the parents, since they're the ones paying for it

hahaha I can try.. but they got my brother a laptop for christmas that was an awesome deal... so to them, every laptop not in a package with a digital camera and a printer for around 1k is incredibly expensive, no matter how nice. So mine will have to be around the same price

i still think you can get a way better PC for the money rather than a MAC
but it is true the macs will not get nearly as many viruses, and OSX is an awesome OS
i have a i Mac G3 that is like 8 yrs old, has been through hell and back and never had a single problem with it
