500 is my magic #
ok lol heres my prob,i have a 01 WS6. it is basicly stock and i want 500hp n/a out of it. i have the slp lid ported and polished tb and smooth bellows. What is the quickest way to achieve this? Heads, cam, and a tune? i have a stb in already and weld in sfc are on the way along with rear control arms and a torque arm. so suspension should be ok for now. as for the diff, will probly get blown out the back of the car if im hard on it lol (still stock) ive been working with 350's 455's 454's and 383's (all the older hot rod stuff) for a long time but im newer to the ls1's

What tranny do you have?
Are we talking about 500 whp? or 500 hp at the motor? You can get 500 hp at the motor with just a cam. You can have 500 whp w/ heads and a BIG cam.

I'd stroke that motor out first, then get a BIG cam with matching heads. I think you may want to get a new rear end too. I don't think the stock ones can take that much horsepower...can they?

i have the M6, i would lik 500 at the rear wheels
found a kit from summit that comes with patroit ls6 heads and bumps comp up to 11:1 comes with a nice cam and 1.8 roller rockers. i think with a tune i could come some where close to 500 but not sure.

Forget about 500HP at the wheels. Chances are if you have to ask how to do it, you'll never end up doing the work to achieve it. 500whp N/A on stock CI is going to take a very good combo, and that won't come by picking parts from a catalog. But if you're still serious, you're best bet is to talk to AFR and get one of their head, cam, and ported FAST intake packages. Ported stock heads, an "off-the-shelf" grind cam no matter how big and an LS6 intake most likely will not get you there. Then you'll need a really efficient exhaust and and good tuner (QTP HVMC headers and a 3" true dual setup). Lookup PatrickG on the other site.
In addition to the thousands and thousands upon thousands you'll spend making that kind of power, you're clutch and rear will be worthless. Look to spend thousands more...

Its going to be pretty tough to get 500 rwhp without a Power Adder.

Its do-able. I copied this from ls1tech:
TSP PRC "Terminator" Heads go 490 with MS3!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just got back from TSP. They installed their new Terminator series 200cc cylinder heads and FAST 90/90. The car is the stock bottom end LS1 with an MS3 cam. After the tuning was all done the car made 490rwhp and 422rwtq!!!! Not too shabby for a heads/cam/intake LS1.

Good luck trying. You are better off finding a good safe horsepower for daily driving or spray it when you need the 500+. It is safer then a huge cam and the pressure of that on the rest of the drive train. It goes deeper like how long will your six speed hold out? Not real long with hard launches. And of course why even bother until you have a rear because you will break if you use that horsepower unless you wanna run from a roll but if you want that should have bought a supra.

Pewter- all bore 370 Trans Am
afr 205s, ported fast intake, nw 90mm tb, lightweight flywheel, proper size PR's, valve springs shimmed to .060 of coil bind, a 236/238 or larger cam on a 112, stepped headers and a thin head gasket might get you really close.

you could try all the various mods the people above have said, but if you want a quick and easy setup just get nitrous or a supercharger put in.

onyx black- 1999 formula firebird
supercharge it and add some spray..or go with a Texas Speed 347 forged shortblock and get a really nice set of heads w/ a matching cam and the 90/90 Pacesetter LTs ORy Loudmouth exhaust * IMO more free flowing* 12 bolt of some kind. get the tranny bullett proofed to about 700 incase you decide to go crazier later on..and probably a textralia clutch pkg..and yea a hell of a dyno tune..373 gears or better and forget your mileage..

Head/Cam/Full bolt-ons/gears/weight reduction. You will be in the 11's. Who cares about the exact number, you get all this stuff and you will have REAL FAST car. Doubt you would be able to tell much diff in 480 whp and 500 whp from the seat of your pants anyway.
After you do all that, back to back drive your hopped-up WS6 and a stock one, and you will realize where your money went.

You'll need more than 346 cubes if you want it to be N/A and streetable. I have a decent H/C setup with a little spray on top...a LOT more than 500rwhp.

Cam and bolt ons can net you 400 rwhp, then spray. Any sort of power adder will make it easy, and any sort of displacement upper will make it easier.
She's baaaaaccccck...
