noise in my motor, help
Got a pecking noise coming out of the driver's side of my motor.
It came on today pretty loud and then went away, it lasted for a couple of minutes. Happened twice. I know its the motor cause it changes speed with rpm.
Is this lifter noise, valvetrain.... any opinions appeciated

Did you happen to see where your oil pressure was at during this noise?

The oil pressure was normal, no flux. there at all.
This is a 120K motor.

does it do it warm and cold...........if you throttle it under the hood, it does follow the RPM's, right?

drain your oil and see if there are any needle bearing stuck on your drain plug. I have had 2 broken rocker arms in the past month. Made a hell of a noise. Thought it was a lifter, but pulled the valve covers and there were the pieces of the rocker arms! Just upgraded to the Yella Terra rockers, no probs so far.

Miss any shifts lately? Could be a bent pushrod.

I hate to say it but the best way to find out is to rip the valve covers off to find out for sure or atleast eliminate a lot of options

Had the same noise in my 02 ws6. took it to the dealer and everyone in the shop said the same thing. Piston slap. I was told that they see this a lot with this motor. they ordered a set of eight high tolerance pistons to replace the under size ones in my motor. The whole rebuild cost me $100.00. Thank God I had one year left on my bumper to bumper. The car had only 11,200 miles on it. It's all good now.
