    Question Replacement Parking Brake Boots

After getting my car inspected, the mechanic told me that my parking brake boots at the backing plates needed to be replaced before I could pass. He was going to charge me over $500 for the full backing plate kits on both sides.

I know you used to be able to buy just the rubber boots at RMS Auto, but they've been out of business for a while. Is there any other way to get the boots these days, short of buying the full kits from GM?

Hmmm. I may have bought mine from RMS. Didn't realize they went out of business.

I haven't messed with my parking brake assembly but looking in the service manual it appears you are talking about the boot that goes behind the adjustment mechanism where the cable enters the backing plate? If so, Rock Auto shows a listing for a parking brake assembly that appears to cover both sides and includes all of the hard parts and shoes (including all of the wear parts and what I think you are calling the park boot) for $148.79.

It's the rubber grommet that the parking brake cable lever goes through, on the backing plate. Basically, this: RMS Product Details: 0FH-Brake-Boot - F & Y Body Parking Brake Lever Boots, Braking Systems, 0FH-Brake-Boot

I was hoping to avoid buying the entire kit, since I only need those two little rubber things.

Thanks to 30birdy for the source info! Unfortunately they are a parts wholesaler and would only sell me the boots in quantity. I got them down to selling me 10 sets. I'm keeping two sets and the rest are for sale in the parts for sale forum. If you need a set or two see the ad and let me know!
