Navy Blue Metallic- 98 T/A, 00 FBVert, 78T/A
installed new MB & processor now OS doesn't work.
So I got a new MB, Processor, & Ram. I get it all installed and power it up.......
WTH..........It looks like I need to reinstall Windows 7 and all my software again.
I asked around and it's the way win7 is designed, something about it being a preventive measure against cloning the OS.
Oh and the old MB died, no way to install again. Capacitors blew.
For you computer guys....any suggestions?

Scott,
I was about to reply yesterday and lost my connections!
Bit late now but do you mean you could not load 7 at all or it
was you having the activation probs, as a call to Microsoft and
a human being can get over the new motherboard issues.
Don't want you to get fleeced!

Silver & Blue- 02 Camaro SS, 04 GTO
Give the computer to a 12 year old. They can fix anything to do with computers. I have a BS in computer science from 1984 and I know nothing about todays systems except to give it to my son when I have a problem.
My ride is a 2002 Camaro SS SLP #3296 with 30k, LTH, 3" Y, CME, Frost tune, K&N, ported TB, Blackwing lid, Bellows, MSD, Denso Iridium, and 85mm MAF, Bilsteins, Eibach springs, SLP strut brace, Adj. Panhard, TA Girdle, UMI, Pro 5.0, Nitto NT555
My wife has a 2004 GTO with the rare SAP, 18" wheels, K&N Cold Air System, MSD, Ported TB, Frost tune, Denso Iridium, Flowmaster cat-back, 3200 Yank, 75k

I was quoted $65 to fix it. So I take it. I tried MS a couple of times and the ppl in India couldn't understand why it wasn't allowing it to load.
I just want my stuff working so I can finally play Diablo III & Guild Wars II.
I hear you, however I live in AL and sorry I have trust issues with many of the natives here. (I'm not from AL, just live here because of work)Last edited by SMWS6TA; 04-04-2013 at 07:54 PM.

Driver issue...you can't just install a new MB and processor without reinstalling the OS.

well with the new HD I'm trying to install.
I've tried every thing I know, I confirm with the shop that tried with the old HD about the other hardware, they confirm everything was hooked up and working properly.
The only thing they said was wrong was the HD, which to me is very strange because it was working fine with the old MB. The old MB keep cutting out but would always reboot. I upgrade because I needed to for current games plus I knew the old MB was going to go at anytime.
In the last 2 months I've:
upgraded the power supply to a 700hrz output.
New video card
Change OS from XP to WIN 7 64 bit with no issues on loading.
Last week
New case fan
New MB ASUS P8277-V LK
New Processor Intel 3.4
New Ram 4GB DDR3
now new HD Sata 3 2 TB WD

1. I wouldn't use a 2TB HD for an OS...too much seeking time.
2. What exactly is happening during the install? Is it hanging up or is it just not starting? Where is it hanging up? Are you using a CD to install?

using the CD.
It takes forever (about 35 mins to get to a window screen that gives options...
After you select full install it goes another 30 mins and gets to about 2% then starts asking for drivers but doesn't tell you what one.

That long time is because you're using a huge HDD.
Are you wiping the drive on install (removing all partitions)? You're not trying to save files from a previous install, right? You should be starting from scratch.

it's a blank new HD at this point and is still causing the same troubles as the original HD that was 260 GB.
wasn't given any options to format the HD, I tried and it just did nothing......even tried partitioning it to a 500gb and the rest for another drive, still no luck. I wanted the bigger drive to separate the OS from the files...Last edited by SMWS6TA; 04-09-2013 at 09:19 AM.

hey, this might be it....
My dvd drive is IDE that has a convertor to sata. It shows the drive and runs it but could this be the issue?

Try doing the custom install instead of the recommended. I believe the option to delete partitions is in there.
Trying hardware diags...did you put the processor in correctly? Is the CPU power cable plugged into the MB? Is the SATA cable plugged into the MB and HDD?

I've tried both installs..still get hung up at the 2% mark asking for a driver.
I just picked up a new sata dvd drive, going to give it a shot.
And yes to all of those questions.

Scott,
In thinking on this, i had a very similar thing a good while back when
i tried to install a Vista OS.
It got a short way into it like you describe and then just hung....
It went back to the store where i bought the majority of the components
and they were good enough to treat it as a bought machine and delved deep.
They found out it eventually was something as simple as a faulty stick of memory!!
Who'd have thought.....
