Why not just add a breather or catch can?

Welcome to the site.
Here are a couple of threads that should help and clarify some questions that come up with this subject.
Explanation between the OEM PCV system and the LS6 VCT (Valley Cover Tray) Here I try to give some answers to questions that most ppl ask when they com across this issue. I list part numbers and give some comparison pics to look at. I also show why a catch can is very beneficial to have.

PCV Quick Fix (I only recommend this if your low on funds or in a jam and need to do a quick fix to get you going, otherwise the better investment is to do the LS6 VCT Mod)

You have a 99, so unless you have had a LS6 block put in at some time you will still be required to notch the block. It is a small chunk but it is not really that hard to do as long as you take your time and follow the directions. IMHO the LS6 VCT is a far better mod to do over the OEM PCV system. In a couple of the threads you'll see that my opinion of the OEM PCV systems is very low. I as well as several others have done this mod so if you have questions or are not sure of something just ask, we'll be glad to help.
A couple of other items you may need to consider that are talked about in the above threads that I fell need to be highlighted. If you do do the LS6 VCT mod considered replacing your knock sensors (KS). Over time they get rusted out plus they are due unless you have under 50,000 miles on them. Another thing is to be prepare to buy a OPSU (Oil Pressure Sending Unit) These become very brittle over the many heat cycles and can break very easy. This usually happens during taking off and re-installing the Intake. There is a thick hose that connects to the intake to the break booster that when ppl take off the intake they whack it with the hose.
Here is a couple of sections that has many stickies for fixes or know issues. They are at the top of the General Help section.
