What Gives? Pops trying to piss me off?
The other day my dad and I were talking about the ride I gave him in the SS a couple of months back. He tells me that my car was pretty quick, ( I could tell by the way he slouched in the seat and white nuckled the center console as I took off), but any way he says my car is pretty quick, but his 69Z was faster and lighter????
He said his 69 Z28 was a Cheverolet "Proving Grounds" car. Said that he wasn't exactly sure what was done to the motor, because he was the second owner. He got the car after the original owner had it for four months. It was his boss. My father worked for a GM Plant back then, FisherBody in Pontiac Michigan. So his boss special ordered this car through work, then sold it to my dad four months later. It was a 4 speed as well. My dad said he replaced the clutch like every other month in it. He said the car weighed 3100 lbs also??
So did my dad smoke too much weed in the 60's and 70's or was there really camaros made unknown to the general public called "Proving Grounds" cars that were bad ass???? Aren't our cars lighter than they were back in 69?? I know the car exsited cause they have baby pictures of me sitting on the hood with my mom and pics of them driving from Michigan to Cali on their honeymoon in it. Beautiful Yellow with black stripes and Black Vinyl top.
The kicker of it all is... He said he wished he had kept it, cause he would have liked to have given it to me for my 16th b-day. I almost popped him in the mouth! I would have killed for that 69 Z, special "Provings Grounds" car or not!

Black- 1998 Camaro Z28
cool story. If you still had that car it might be worth hundreds of thousands at the Barrett auction.
Dont' know about the "bad ass" proving grounds cars though. Someone else might know on here...

Odds Are It Could Have Been A Yenko Or Copo Camaro Which Yes Were Fast As Shit, The Weight However I Doubt It, But It Could Have Been A 69 Zl1 Camaro With The All Alluminum 427 That Was Underated At 425hp But When Dynoed Put Down 500 Rwhp Which Was Very Light

My LT1 with me in it weighs 3600 pounds and I have removed the airbags, front bumper and foam, rear bumper, rear seats, carpeting, console, underbody rust protection, air conditioning, air pump, radio, and whatever else I could remove.......... Plus I have lightweight wheels and tires.....

The DZ302 was tested at well over 400 HP, for the 69 Z28. But rumour also had it far higher.
You should have said - "Well Dad, maybe you should have KEPT the Camaro for me!"

The only joke here is you if you think the DZ302 was shit. You may have had all the shit common 302s, but you don't know jack about the 302 in question in this thread

Back in the day ( 69' )My Uncle used to be a higher up employee for GM. He used to bring specailty cars home for my Dad to drive as he was afraid to run them out himself.
Ones that come to mind was a 69 427 Vette and a 69 Camaro with a 302 w/2 4bbl's . Pops said the camaro was scary fast and would have ripped the Vette a new one.
Perhaps "Archie " had a few 307's and thought he had 302's.If it doesn't require Premium fuel ,You got the wrong Model.
