Clutch and flywheel upgrade
hi there, Im posting this for a friend. Hes got a 97 vette, and he was wondering about clutch and flywheel upgrades. Its relatively stock except its got a billy boat glass pack exhaust, air intake and short throw shifter. Its going to get a tuner as well. But right now he needs a new clutch and wants to do a package. So what he wants to really know is, what are your guys opinions on flywheel weight and clutches?
He wants it to be able to spool up quicker off the line and is willing to sacrifice some amount of driveability. He is mainly into road racing.
Thanks

the best set up, is the dual clutch / fywheel from the new corvette zr1.. for the c6 corvettes.. this setup[ dual clutch ]will hold up to about 700 horsepower.. its not a easy install ?,but about $1,400 for the kit ? to do this.. think one of best to buy from, is kateck/ performance guys for corvettes.. go on corvette form to check out this, and more.!.good luck rkvette

I think thats kind of out of his range. Mostly wondering about the likes of going to a much lighter aluminum flywheel and what weight is better recommended for his type of driving. In his future he doesnt plan on putting a whole lot of power to the car seeing as up in our neck of the woods its hard to really use it.

ccr90- may be a new stock clutch is best for him ,b/c he wont have any problems ! a lot of us guys with the 2006 zo6 and newer, smoke the clutch ! its very hard not to do this, at the drag strip !. some of the fastest guys run great ,by just installing a auto tranny.. one solution is this kit from keteck [ performance corvette guys.] . this kit [ basic zr1] now is up to $1,599/lighter/ pounds of weight, think about 10 ? power now will hold up to 900 horsepower they claim ? and have guys running them, with all good comments,so far ! of course they are not the only company , running these dual clutch setups ..like in the 2009 corvettes zr1's and newer. rkvette

Thanks guys, Ill look into katech. Is everything interchangeable with relative ease or are their major modifications to be done to run like the ls7 setup?
