I really need to get money saved up for a 12 gauge shotty! A 10 ,12 or 20 gauge shotgun or a .50 cal muzzleloader are all you can use on bears here. I figure a 12 gauge remington 870 super mag combo will be the perfect set up anything from small game all the way up to monsters like this one I will be covered.

yea I heard about that one, I am wondering where it spent most of its time? I am thinking jesey because of the long periods between allowed bear hunting allows for them to get that big.

have any of you guys ever ate bear? Taste like chicken? Figure it probably does since everything else tastes like chicken. I've never had it and would probably never hunt it unless I ate some and liked it.

You mean this one? thats what happens when people treat a wild animal as a pet. I feel sorry for the hunter that is probably being harrased. It isn't his fault,it is a leagal kill, just dumb assed yuppies think that they can control the world.

well it really depends what it eats on how greasy it is. Like bozo is probably greasy from being fed table scraps. The bear meat I tried was quite good I would say somewhere between beef and pork. I however did roast it on one of those broiler pans that comes with ovens. Made a tent out of aluminum foil to help keep it moist yeat the fat drained in the lower part of the pan. I also baked some rolled in pork shake and bake. That was totally good.

I read somewhere soon as you start gutting a bear you will know if you want to ry eating it or not. I suppose if it eats alot of fish like the alaskan brown bear it will have a fishy smell/taste to it ,I guess that goes with every bear and what they eat.

I swear people get their damn butthole hurt way to often, I mean really if its that big of a damn deal that he shot it maybe you should have caged it up but then it would be even worse to do that to a bear who is normally wild. And its nature people do hunt that bears day was coming sooner or later regardless of what people done lol.

the problem I have is I don't bear hunt. We don't have them and if we did I probably still wouldn't do it. It falls in the same category as shooting a dog for me. I just have no reason to shoot one. I don't eat it and probably wouldn't so why kill it? Definitely not just to have a rug. I'd never knock anyone else for doing it but it's just not my thing. A lot of the video I see of bear hunts is over bait. I definitely don't believe in bait hunting for anything. If you can't beat it on it's own terms you shouldn't be hunting it is my philosophy.
The pet thing is silly.....shouldn't make a pet out of a wild animal and especially one that has a season. Down at the woods a few years ago some guys from a private camp came down and told us they'd been hand feeding a fawn apples all year and to please not shoot it. First off I wouldn't shoot one that small to begin with and I told them they weren't doing that deer any favors. It's on state hunting land and they're getting it accustomed to humans. Bad combo. My guess is that deer didn't make it through it's first winter.....and it very well could've been their fault.

Orion I see your point on not hunting bears, for me it is almost opposite. If I tried it before ,I like it,and there is a season for it I will hunt it,eat it and do whatever with the hide ect. However I will not get into trapping for fox or anything because I haven't tried eating anything that would be trapped unless I tried it before.Like snapping turtles, I have tried it I like it and if I can catch them I will. beaver, fox, coons ect not so sure.

I think that someone really needs to step up and say " look assholes, you fed it which you was warned against, you caused a potential problem, and you are harrasing someone that legaly killed an animal? FUCK OFF !!!"

I had some that was good and some that was pretty bad. The good ones taste like beef.

Yeah thats the one.... The hunter did nothing wrong and people should know better then to feed a wild bear like that.

You can't bait bears in PA and to shoot a PA black bear is a real accomplishment. PA has a 3 day rifle hunting season and we kill about 4000 bears statewide each year.

I was big on trapping years ago, but I don't have time to check my traps everyday. Back in the 70's foxes were going for 70 bucks each and my uncle caught over a 100 that year.
