Only his opponents know for sure how many foul starts, crossed centerlines, and exploded engines were inspired by seeing his dragster or Funny Car in the other lane. Pity the fool who met the icy stare of those big, blue eyes. Only Don Garlits maintained such extreme intensity for so many racing seasons. Big Daddy may be the greatest fuel car racer ever, but nobody drove fuel cars better than Prudhomme.

I met Don's wife and daughter back in the 1990s. His daughter, Donna, called me one night because I had made an inquiry with an artist about a particular print and that artist had called Don to see if he had any left over in his garage. Donna called to ask me more about what I wanted and said she and her Dad were going through boxes of stuff but were not certain what I was looking for...

A year later when I was in San Diego for a computer conference I called up the shop and spoke with Donna again. She said to come on over and meet the family. I had a wonderful day with them.

I guess Snake was a real hard person to work with in close quarters (extremely demanding) but when not at work he is a great guy.
