    New Rifle

I won this thing at the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Banquet. I spent about 200 bucks renewing my membership, steak dinner for my wife and I, bottomless mug for beer(nice etched glass mug w/ RMEF Logo) and raffle coins. Hell the coins are even nice...I gave them to my boys. Kimber 8400 Montana .300 Win Mag.

That's a hell of a rifle. I believe the actions are modeled after the winchester M70

Tell me about it. I picked it up and got a bushnell 4-20x50 and mounted the scope. Put it in the shooting vice and zeroed it. It hurt just leaning into the vice to zero it. 5 shots to zero at 200yds and then 1 shot out of the vice. That 1 was enough for me. 25 bucks for a box of 20 rouns too. But it's a kick ass weapon.

yes sir,the next rifle I get will probably be a 300 win mag. after I build my .260 ackley improved but Im thinking around 9-10 lbs with bull barrel and stock.

Maybe that will keep it from hurting me during the long range shoots I join.

We shoot 25 rds. in the competiotion alone that doesnt include sight in or practice.

I did it with a 6 lb 30-06 once and I promise that will never happen again.

I've shot in a couple local competitions but I don't think I'll ever shoot the 300 in one. It's just damn brutal. I'll hunt with it under the right circumstanses but it's set up for long range shots and I just don't see many of those around these parts.

I too shot a very light 30-06 in a competition that turned out to be a long day. I'm not sure on the weight but it's a Rugar M77 with that hollowed Rugar stock. It's not a free floating nor bull barrel so if pretty much transfers all of the energy to your shoulder.

My favorite longgun for hunting, tactical carry and competition is a Savage 10FP chambered in .308. Out of the box it was sweet to shoot. The accu-trigger is nice a crisp but functions smoothly too. I adjusted the trigger down to the least resisitance possible and I don't have many weapons that are more enjoyable to shoot.

yeah that M77 is light my buddy has one and it will hurt you for sure

the savage 10fp is a great gun, plus any one can change a barrel on a savage rifle

I would have a savage 10fp in .308 also but i found a hell of a deal on the tkka I have and it shoots just as good so I never bought one.

But I still love to shoot my buddies.

I shoot my 10FP any chance I get. It's a bit heavy for the hunts I've gone on that you have to walk 5-6 miles in the mountains or foothills but the range/accuracy/non-brutal recoil make it worth it to me to carry the extra weight. Plus .308 is so easy to find range information about. The round is so common amongst tactical shooters that ballistics data is easy to get if you don't like calculating your own windage and elevation.

Me personally, I've gone out to 600 meters with the 10FP making groups every 50 meters so that I could make an elevation card. Windage is a little more tricky but it's nice having the elevation data already known for the most part.
