9in Ford Install

I'm going to start looking for a 9in ford for my 00 SS. I have a guy that can cut and narrow the axle tubes and the axles. Does anyone know what the best car to get a rearend out of is? I don't want to spend the $2500 on a kit. The hardest part will be figuring out the brakes. Any help would be appreciated. Anyone done this before without buying the kit?

Hey, I was wondering if you had any problems with the driveshaft or the u-joints.

Never got any feedback. So I never have pursued it any farther, but I will before 2 much longer. Going with a cam swap tomorrow night.

Hey, I just put a 9in in my 99 1le and I saved money by buying the housing and axles from moser brakes and torque arm work. You have to find a third member in junk yard make sure it matches your axles, 31 spline was hard to find, I went with a mini spool and you have to get a bastard u joint half ford half chevy, but everthing seams to be fine but you lose most of you driveability. Also I went to a x pipe and that free'd up a lot of horsepower from my cam I have a T-rex.
