Steering shaking
I just installed some rims and had them balanced, but the steering wheel shakes violently once I hit 50 and makes it almost undrivable. The steering wheel goes from left to right very quickly, I can't figure what it could be. Help??

Was in the tire and rim business for a long time and I would say that either you have a bent rim or they did a terrible job balancing those tires!!!

It was a friend that did it. Thing is the tires been mounted for over 2 days and its held pressure, drives fine up to 45 MPH, and it also balanced fine, but could a rim be bent? He said the rims all seemed fine so that left alignment on my list of troubleshooting maybe because it only starts after 45 MPH

Yes i can almost promise they are not balanced right i would have them rotate them around and if you feel the vibration in your seat then i would say more than likely its going to be a bad balance.

Okay thanks man, then i'll go to a shop as much as i'd rather not and just have them balance them again. The steering wheel's also going rapidly left to right, not as much vibrating. I don't know if that info would make a difference in troubleshooting. Seeing how the rim seems fine, should I rule out a rim being bent? Or wait to see how balancing goes? And should I do an alignment while i'm at it? I switched from 16's to 17's if it makes a difference at all

You might want to check for uneven treadwear while you're at it.

2002 Z28 A4 NBM- Sadly now demodded :(
I hope you're spin balancing them.
And are they using taped on or rim mount weights?
I had a wheel weight come off and it did like you're describing.

Yeah, they've been spin balanced, my friend did it once and didn't notice its pulling different numbers everytime. They used rim mount weights, which i'm not a fan whatsoever. Plus I found out it's a rim thats bent. Such a slight one that it only shows up after 45 MPH, so now I need 1 ZR1. My life sucks. Thanks for the help guys
