white- 99 Camaro SS Convertible
Threw a code???
I've got 1999 SS with only 15k miles and it is totally stock. Last night my check engine light came on with a P0420 code which is "bank 2 cat below threshold"
I hear people get that code with aftermarket cats and or long tubes.
Any guesses as to why I'm getting that totally stock and low miles?
Thanks

I'd just clear it first and see if it returns. Usually it's the cat failing but can also be the postcat 02 sensor. P0420 is bank 1 (drivers side) and P0430 is bank 2 (passenger side).

Well, those codes will return, if you clear them. They are for faulty catalytic convertors, these codes only will show up after the PCM verifies the O2 sensors are ok. It only means your convertors are not cleaning the exhaust good enough. I believe GM has a warranty for our convertors up to 10 years as long as mileage is under 100k, so to the OP your are probably out of luck for free replacements.

the cats are under warranty for 8 years 100k miles. don't clear the codes. take it into a dealership and have them fix it for free.

If it is 10 years for a 1999, he better get his ass to the dealer pronto for the free convertor(s)! And yes, do not clear the code before showing up.

The 10/120 extended warranty only applies to the 00-02 LS1 F cars. Original federal emissions warranty was 8/80 on cats and PCM.
