How to build
I've got 180,000 miles and am looking at a rebuild. How do/can I build it to where I wont have to get a brand new computer. I.E bore, cam things like that.

Uh, you don't have to get a new computer, you just get it tuned through the PCM via mail-order tune or dyno tune.

Keep the stock cam/heads/ and sensors. Internal work doesn't hurt it. A stroker bottom end with a Stock top end works fine without tuning.

If you stroke it, won't you still need to adjust the injectors and timing?

As far as head work and cam, what can be done. I'm a huge fan of hitting cams but, I'm also aware that the computer recognizes that as a miss.
I've seen advertisements for cams on line but don't know if they will actually work.

Heads and cam can be changed to anything you want to put on it. You just have to get the ECU tuned on a Dyno. Here it costs about 500$ to get tuned b/c you have to buy the program.

I guess it is better to take it and have it tuned than to order a tune Huh?
I've heard so many stories where when people build hot motors that the computer never gets it right. Does that happen alot?

I would never trust a computer tuned and shipped to ya. only the Dyno will tell how the motor is re-acting, Almost every engine is different, So the tune will be a little different. So taking the car to get tuned would be smarter yes.

If the motor is "built" will it be difficult for the computer to maintain the proper function?
I know a guy that bought a salvaged z28 and built it for the drag strip. He said the computer never ran right. I've also heard a few similar stories. What do you guys know?
