Skip Shift Eliminator
I was surfing for an inexpensive and nice skip shift eliminator harness. I came across someone selling a fuse they built to handle eliminating the skip shift. It is advertised for a corvette and shows it being located under the hood in the fuse panel.
Is it possible to stick a fuse in the panel to eliminate the skip shift? Is this only for Corvettes?Last edited by kool-aide; 11-16-2009 at 11:43 AM. Reason: fixed spelling errors.

I've never heard of such a thing. I'm pretty sure the solenoid is controlled by the PCM or BCM so I doubt a single fuse will have anything to do with it.
I personally don't get the need to remove it. I just learned to drive with it and never looked back.

yes... and i've done it... it's a $0.05 fuse from radio shack... you have to unplug the line from your trans mission... insert the fuse and tape it up good then ziptie the line...

that article says how to do it... i did mine back in 1999 and have not had a problem since...

Yeah the Radio shack resister mod is the easiest and cheapest way to eliminate CAGS. It cost me $.50 for a 6 pack of resisters in `98 and I did 6 cars wth it.

I know what you mean. I even looked in the car manual for info on what triggers it. I have basically found the rev point to go 1st to 3rd instead.
I wanted to eliminate the skip shift to teach my wife how to drive the car. It is difficult teaching someone when the dumb thing kicks in on you.

I honestly have never heard of it. I don't see how installing a fuse under hood would do it as the wiring from the skip shift goes straight to the PCM and not anywhere near the underhood fuse box.

You need a resistor, or skip shift eliminator to plug in (resistor) to bypass it. On your car the ENG SEN fuse controls the MAF, H02S, reverse lockout and skip shift. Only other option I know of is have it turned out.

ok, so it sounds like the idea of an under the hood fuse is unique to the corvettes. The ad did say a C6 Vette. I thought I would ask just in case someone had stumbled on to something. Maybe this is one more reason to dream of owning my first Vette, lol....

you know what....that is a darn good question.
Any one? What happens if you unplug it? Will the PCM freak out on you?

I am pretty sure the check engine light will come on. That would be the only reason sticking a resistor in there would be a "fix"

If you just unplug it, it will throw a code to the ECM and trigger the SES light.
The resistor loops the signal and tricks the ECM into thinking the system is active. So basically the Skip Shift light will still come on under the correct conditions but you can put it into what ever gear you choose.

tx. I figured that is what the resistor was doing. just wanted to know if unplugging it would do anything crazy. if all it does is harmlessly turn on the SES light. Well thats not so bad. of course if you are under there unplugging it, why not jam the resistor in there. I have my fingers crossed for that too good to be real ebay item, lol....
i picked up a used, advert as working, condition a/c panel for a steal. i figure with a little patience a nice skip shift plug in will pop up too.
I would go the resistor route, but i'm not a big fan of taping with the intent of blocking water. That just sounds like my bad luck going south on me fast.

very nice, i did not know that. It's like a little list of annoying things you wanted tuned out:
Skip Shift
AIR
O2s, down stream
etc...
thank you i will keep this in mind.
