Sunset Orange Metalic- 2001 Camaro SS
My opinion
The dodge would be ok if you got a hell of a deal on it
I would personally take a nice powerstroke
DO NOT GET THE V10 - you will regret it
Way too heavy and the gas mileage sucks
You dont want a ranger, whats wrong with a nice f-150
You can find a nice f-150 or silverado and get a nice lift for it or something of that nature
Why get a big diesel if your not gonna use it for what it was built for?

"Hey guyz, I can ruin the track not only with my rock hard highway ribs but by also oiling the track down with my exhaust. Smoke rulez lawl" People continue to roll coal because it's "kewl", despite the fastest trucks being smoke free under boost. That's just wasted fuel out of the exhaust.

I had a 96 ram with 218k and original motor/trans. It was used alot offroading to job sites so it got rusty, but it was still a great solid truck. The main problemwith dodges is the front end, stuff wearing out. I always thought fords were ugly and I'd rather rebuild a front end than drive a ford. Diesel would be the way to go, better mileage and will keep its value.

Black/Screaming Yellow- 99 S/C TA WS6 & 04 Cobra
Yeah LOL! I am drive practical shit and my other two cars are my hobby. I also just moved from DC and you are so wrong when you say it is no problem with a big truck there. I think you should use your head and make a old deal with Daddy Warbuck's in that if you get a smaller more economical car to drive that costs less to insure. Then down the road he will help you get an F-body or Mustang in a few years when you are done with school...
Another thing, those diesel trucks that do that at the track are stupid as hell IMHO but in a few weeks you will be doing that down Constitution I am sure... Good luck!Last edited by Packy; 10-26-2009 at 08:21 AM.

<<<< will never understand why people choose pickup trucks as their platform to go fast. Yes you can have diesel trucks have sick torque and tons of power and they are fun to hit boost with on the street, but wanna continually go drag racing and think its so awesome to soot/smoke up the whole track.... You are really just being a total d'bag and everybody at the track hates you
Use a diesel truck for what it was designed for.

+ can't afford a diesel on a budget
- oil changes are $75-$100
- have to keep the glow plugs good are you're basically F-ed. i don't know where you live but it's a pain in the winter if it gets cold there.
- tires are more expensive and more pricey to get repaired
what's wrong with a regular 1/4 truck? get a nicer 04-07 regular truck (minus F-150, skip 04-05 if you look at those), lift em or level em and put some huge as tires on it.

Not all pickups are a bad base. No, it's not going to be a race car but my truck weighs less than a new pig challenger or camaro. Plus it has a th350, 12 bolt and traling arms

Most of the time folks build trucks cuz the bigger ones already come with heavy duty shit.
Heavy suspention, heavy axles, heavy trans, heavy diffs, A FULL FRAME, etc, etc, etc. The truck I posted, (except the exhaust) is ALL stock, with a ball park of 1000 ft lbs torque with a tune!..Get it? Wink.............

OP sounds like a brat.
"I want I Want I WANT!!!!"
WAAAAAAAAA
Be happy with whatever your pops is willing to get you. Heck, I'm 30, will likely exceed 6 figures this year, and roll to work in a 98 Exploder, LOL.

I been out of the Ford dealer since 07 and the 04 and up f150s were still pretty new when i was there, what about the 04-05 makes you say avoid them? Not doubting you, just wondering. When I was servicing them they did have the occasional front hub on 4x4s go bad prematurely and I've been told theres an issue now with spark plugs getting stuck in the 3valve heads. You gotta spray the shit out of the plug before you pull it out or you pull the threads out of the head. One of these days Ford will actually figure out that 2 threads isnt enough for a spark plug in the modular heads

Basically what you said, 3valve heads = pain in the ass. Plus the cam phaser/ exhaust mani bolt but thts with any ford truck. There you go OP... Get a ford f150 with broken exhaust manifold bolts and you have a reasonable truck with a diesel sound
I was gonna say trans to but that is case specific on mine

Buy a lift for the suburban and other mods, lol. Honestly, you can make the Burban look bad ass, look on Car domain. I rather have that over a ranger or F-150 like truck. But I would take a diesel truck if I could, mainly because there's time I need a truck that can pull. But if I could not get a diesel or a nice sports car if I where you. I would make the burban more interesting.
