first off stick with what you know mechanic wise and if you want a beater that will run forever that blue ford will never die they dont have enough hp to hurt anything but have plenty of tq to pull stumps up. Where i live the red necks drive the dodges the people with a little more money and class drive gm and the ford boys cant decide witch side they are on. ford is still the number one in truck sales that has to say something but i have also drove gm trucks since i could drive and loved everyone of them get something you like!!!

Sorry to say this especially for the new gm truck owners. All the 1/2tons, like silverado and sierra 1500s and yukon, tahoes.... Upper and lower ball joints are junk. Expect to replace them around 50k. My moms 07 avalance has had both upper control arms replaced and she was at 44k.

[QUOTE=Transamws6;2477974]Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of GM anymore at all, but I must say they currently make an awesome truck and basically always have, I would strongly consider looking into a Chevy/GMC truck in your price range. QUOTE]
at that statement

never heard of that with the new body style. I have to replace the intermediate steering shaft on my '05 gmc which is common. 50$ and an easy repair

What am I missing here? I've heard nothing but good things about the GMT900 GM trucks, good motor/trans combo's avaliable, pretty decent interior for a truck, and exterior wise, all of the different models actually look pretty cool, at least to me.
All vehicles have common issues that are associated with them, but I haven't heard of any major problems from people who own/really know the new bodystyle trucks.

haha yep yep, cant tell yeah how many i have done. lower column bearing also goes out quite often
eh, just weak front ends and lots of cheap materials used in certain spots. engines with afm, the lifters tend to eat up the cams
6l80s have issues with sealing rings on the pump cover but otherwise its a good tranny imho

the latest steering shaft is supposed to be a permanent fix. I remember them re-packing with grease and replacing the steering shaft on my mom's old '04 burb and the problem came back immediately

Yeah, the AFM I've read can actually be turned off with certain aftermarket tunes. Also, I actually expect to see cheap materials in any GM product so that doesn't really shock me. When I looked at a brand new Z71 Tahoe in person months back, I noticed that they still seem to have lot's of plastic and other cheap material, but I didn't think it was too bad, much better than mines.
