Thanks for the quick response. I have an automatic with a shift kit already, which I don't plan to mess with. I'd like to reuse as much as I can from the LS1. Then upgrade at a later time.

I have access to a lift and I'll probably try to drop the engine from the bottom. The Haynes manual I have only shows how to pull the engine from the top. Have you seen anywhere that shows the steps for bottom removal or should I just buy a factory service manual?

Thanks again for all of the info.

Automatic! Eeek - not ideal if you want to go fast. Do they not make these with t56 tremecs? Shifting gear when YOU want is surely the way to go?

Mind you I am a Brit and hate Autos!

I have owned it for almost a month and I only drove it 40 miles before the motor cut loose on me. I just want it back on the road for now. Plus I work in Washington DC, not the most ideal place for a standard when traffic is bad, which is always.

Cool - makes sense then - few times I have been in Houston I have been glad of an auto.

But out in the country they are just wrong

So did this engine come with the upgraded LS6 valley cover or oil pump?

I did my LS6 swap in the summer of '04 BEFORE this CTS-V engine was available I believe...or at least that's what I tell myself since I spent an extra $2K for 12498399.

Anyway, I did a complete write up on my swap with a few pics and you can see it here:

Did this engine come with the upgraded LS6 valley cover or oil pump? Is the timing chain beefier than the LS1?

It does come with the LS6 oil pump, which is better, I replaced the chain with Comp cam's double roller, but it does have the same chain as the LS1. You'd be better off going with the LS2 chain.
