I remembered seeing the picture before and thought it would be fitting in this thread. However I was too lazy to look through my funny pictures folder and my photobucket account (Both of which are massive), so I went to google image search and typed in "She's a woman". The picture I posted was the first result that came up. I went to it and copied the URL, and pasted it into the "insert picture" option in the fast reply toolbar.

She's calculating a 25% margin in lieu of a 25% markup. Pretty standard actually.

Hate to rain on your parade TSS, but her method is more common than yours in retail. Calculating a margin instead of a markup allows you to easily determine what percentage of incoming money is profit. Granted, its trivial to calculate anything now, but the method dates back to when all calculations were done by hand.

Yep, that how we do it where I work. We sell off of a list price using a multiplier but everything internal to the company is done with a divisor.

by dividing by .75 all she is doing is providing a 33.33% markup
1 divided by 3/4 is 1 times 4/3... any 6th grader would know that
