Imho it would seem the best way to tell if your alarm still arms is to set it with the fob and then use the door key to open the door..

Chances are it still funtions in @ least that capacity..

If it still funtions you can then (if you desire) turn up it's sesitivity (in slight increments don't crank the knob) from the control box located on the fender well (inside the car) near the spare tire area..

Suggestion: If you are particularly irritated by another member's posting habits and are constantly fighting the urge to flame them, you can click on that person's profile, and select "Add to ignore list." This will make that person's posts invisible to you.

Be warned, of setting it too sensitive or the thing will go off when the wind blows...

When you put the key in the ignition the vats module reads the resistance in the pellet at the base of the key via 2 small wires in the ignition. If you're light is on then something is up with either your key or your ignition switch.
You can find the hot wire going to the pump ( I believe it's the grey wire but I'll have to look it up to be certain) and you can wire your switch in there. There's a plug right above the axle on the drivers side where you can easily access the wires. I will also look up the pin number on the pcm and you can access it there too pretty easily. After that just hide the switch in a good location on one would think to look.
The first time he replaced the cylinder inside the steering column or idk where it goes. He did that because I was having vats problem. Then few days after that. I had vats problems again and he said it was the ignition switch again. So he replaced it. After that the light stay on when the switch is on.
I hate to see that light there.
I will go look for him and ask him to fix it or get my money back I paid $500 and I'm not happy with what he did.
The switch sometimes dnt want to spin. I jar to play with it for a minute to make it run. And when you turn the signal to the right it hardly stays on. That happened since he changed the switch.
Plus sometimes when I turn the steering wheel it honks by it self.
    He did an horrible job.

I'll see what I can do on the gas pump wires. I hope I dnt mess it up lo

I think the stock alarm works.
Because last week the rote control died. And. I would open the door with the key. The alarm started beeping after few seconds, I
Open the switch n then it turns off.
    Is just not loud enough.

was this someone doing it on the side or something? Doesn't sound like he knew what the hell he was doing in there. There's a thread here somewhere of someone taking the column apart with pictures. Might want to look that up. I'll see if I can find it for you. I'm not sure I would trust the guy to tear back into it again...no telling wha would be messed up next.

Like Orion said, I wouldn't go back there for anymore work. I took mine to the dealership to get the ignition cylinder replaced and it cost me 250 with a brand new key.

    Thanks for the link orion.
I'll se if I can try to fix it my self.

The guy owns a mechanic shop.
He's been working on my cars for a while. But this time I dnt knw what happen.
But is the last time he'll be working on one of my cars.
I'll be back with him to ask for some money back or I'll be taking him to court. I hate issues like that but he charged me $500 for something wasn't done right.

I tried to avoid going to the dealership because is very expensive. But at the end was even worst,

I like the switch under the cigarette lighter idea. Really though an alarm should be fine. If someone wants ur car bad enough they will get it. But yours is a 2000 ss right? There are many more valuable targets. My buddy's 3 year old cobalt has my z beat on kbb by several thousand, not to mention a new stang or maro! Throw in a quick switch and be done! Besides you should be more worried about some one stealing your wheels, u don't need a key for those!

My is not worth to much. But people around here like to do things like that just mess around.
I had a 96 saturn it got stollen 3 times in one year
They messed up the clutch. And take all the parts off the interior and put them in the trunk.

I have locks on the rims.
But people come to me asking if my rims have locks, sound system, alarm, things like that.
So before something happen I rather do something bout it.

I was thinking on getting lojack but I heard is expensive.

I just think I work hard and is very hard to have something nice. Just for some one to come and mess or still your car just because they dnt have a life

If the people are that ignorant in your area then your concers are probably justified. Sucks people don't respect people better than themselves! May i suggest that a concealed carry permit might be the best security!!!!! Lol!
