Gear swap this week..HELP?
Ordered 3.73 ring and Pinion for my car Friday and it should be here on tuesday.Anyway I have to get the rearend rebuilt asap as it is Howling terribly and I am afraid it is about to give up the ghost.
I am going from 2.73 and I already have a license for hptuners so after the swap I can get everything back in order.
Is the swap something a novice mechanic such as myself handle or should I spend the 2-300 bucks to have a shop rebuild it?
Anything else I may need to be aware of?
I have also purchased the axle bearings as I might as well swap them out at the same time.
Thanks
John

go to how to videos.com and get the one for your rear, that what i did for my 4l60e, i never did a tranny build, but i work at a motorcycle shop and have rebuilt several r6,r1,stx-12f watercraft and many more motors, as long as you can use dial indicators and have experience with bearing race installation you should be able to tackle it, and also make sure every step is done correctly, cause you don't want that rear end locking up on you, not trying to scar you or anything, but watch the video first, and then decide if you have the tools, place, and the ability to perform this swap......best of luck to ya

Have a shop do it. Changing rear end gears is not something a novice mechanic should be doing. It's not worth it. Do a search a mechanic on here posted a step by step guide with pics you can judge for yourself after that how feasible it is for you to do it yourself.

have a shop due it, and with rears just because you put it in and looks good doenst mean it wont howl, imo rear ends is an art mastered by a few. get it done
