One thing people fail to understand is that when these manufacturers are putting out these real long warranties they make it a real pain in the ass for the dealer to get paid on the warranty claims. Hence why the dealer is really particular about things, because the dealer doesnt wanna get burnt for the repairs. the dealer exists to make money, not spend money to fix a customers car that is broken because of mechanical failures and poor design. Now the notion of the frequency of maintenance? we all know you are supposed to maintain your vehicle. The dealer hoping you do it with them is jus good business sense. Prime example of a car that has a nice warranty and could potentially have been a disaster for both dealer and customer is a 2006 hyundai azera I worked on today which came in for a 15k service, and a rattling noise at start up but only after the car had been sititng for a lil. Turns out the oil was changed at a jiffy no-lube and the careless pricks didnt change the oil rings on the guys cartridge filter. Oil leaked all over his trans, down the trans and lubed the entire undercarriage of his car. I brought the guy out and he tells me had to top it off with 3 qts of oil in 1000 mi. Now this isnt the guys fault for anything other then letting a jiffy lube change his oil. NOw lets say his engine knock didnt go away..... Is it right that the dealer would have to get shafted on a warranty claim do to someone elses negligence? yes some things as simple as oil changes these days are apparently confusing to some people. Point being, the dealer that the customer comes crying to when something goes wrong and you want to warranty your crap is less likely to cover things because they dont wanna eat it. the dealer wants to fix the car. we lose money if we dont. most of the manufacturers are VERY anal about c.s.i scores.
ps. i powerwashed all the oil off the customers trans, oil filter cansiter and undercarriage. he was extremely happy and his exact words were " i cant believe i was that stupid to go to jiffy lube". The point of this post is that as I'm sure nearly all gearheads are more then capable of doing way more then changing their own oil the dealer doesnt know this and there are a lot of people that think they are gearheads and cant even change wiper blades. also, dont go to jiffy lube for anyother reason then having to use their bathroom because you have to take a piss so bad.

In order to qualify for the warranty they will nickel and dime every single person out there buying one of their products, and, as a generality here, every 1 out of 10 that breaks down legitimately, they are making money off of these required-by-warranty services the other 9 people are paying for 'just in case'. The number of vehicles they put out vs. the number that will come back and actually be granted warranty work without surcharges will be in their favor. I would believe as a general rule companies that big would try not to do things that aren't financially 'smart'.

about 3/4 of the cars that come in with complaints at my job are warranty repairs. we pretty much cover it if its within the mileage and time without question. being a hyundai dealer we dont really have too many cars coming in with mods either, save for the occasional tiburon but even those are pretty much jus appearance mods. at most dealers theres more warranty work then cash. think abotu why that is and if you give me the right answer you get a free cookie lol

i dont really mind doing warranty work, other than rattles and very quiet squeeks. my favorite is when they bring it in for an SES light that went one once 1000 miles ago.
im just glad im not a chrysler tech.

Chrysler also has to be banking on that once the car title is transferred the warranty is void, no matter what. Like stated earlier, the type of people that buy new cars have the money to buy another new car in a few years. Most likely selling the one with the warranty or trading it in. Of course there are people that just keep their cars forever too, but those types are few and far between.

Exactly right. Don't think dodge has't thought this out . Thats why the lifetime warranty is non transferable. It's a great deal if you plan to keep the car/truck for ever but most won't. This is all a marketing trying to get more people into the showroom.
I actually laughed the first time I heard the commercial on tv. I immediatly caught that the warranty was non transfeable.

Silver- 2003 GTI 1.8T :(
we just bought a dakota about an hour ago.. and we bought for 1500 extra an all around lifetime package... i covers prety much every mechanical aspect on top of the power train... the powertrain coverage includes even the internal engine components and all... seemed like a good deal and you dont even have to document maintenance or go through them to do the maintenance to maintain your warranty.. and it will also cover aftermarket parts

Well, I just bought a $53k 07 6.7L 3/4 ton 4x4 Laramie Mega Cab diesel three weeks ago and it's one fine fuckin truck too. I'm a GM guy at heart but damn that Cummins was unreal down low(350hp, 650tq at 1500rpm). I test drove the Dmax for a whole day just to make sure. I really wanted the GM to come thru. Mainly because I've never owned a Dodge before. However, the Dmax just didn't impress me as much. The Dodge may not ride over a bump like the GM or have memory position seats but I'm tellin you it is the better TRUCK for towing my 5th wheel. It's friggin solid. Have you seen a Laramie package? Mines decked out with the only exception of NAV. For a comparable Dmax it was $6k more. The Dodge dealer thru in $700 nurf bars, and a $299 bedliner. All I said was I didn't want nurf bars and the bedliner. Instead of removing them they left them on. Both are really nice trucks but I had to go with a Cummins and exhaust brake(jake brake). Interior was a wash imho. Both had some of the same gadgets and then gadgets the other didn't. Yep, the Dodge rides alittle rougher but just over bumps because of the solid axels. Didn't bother me tho. Down the hiway it's the same. Did the 500 mile breakin period and changed the oil. Towed my 17000lb 5th wheel and at night you don't even know it's there. I got more trade in money, bigger rebate, bigger affiliates discount, and free stuff from Dodge than GM. I got one hell of a truck for $24k.
BTW, stay the hell away from a ford diesel. My neighbor's on his second lemon. You can get a twin turbo 6.4L but I'd still wait a bit to see how they prove out. The previous 6.0L are just shit.

oh yea the only way they would actually be able to sell a product with a warranty like that would be non transferable, original owner only. dodge would be insane to have a "lifetime" warranty on one of their trucks/suvs ect... i have never seen a manufactor with more drive train problems then dodge.

z28kid- i know toyotas are under the 3 years 36k bumper to bumper which within three years or 36k miles of buying a new toyota there is hardly any need for warranty because in my opinion those cars are built pretty well, not sure about honda. hyundai has 5 years 60k bumper to bumper which is needed because those cars are a bunch of POS, and i swear thats the only way hyundai actually sells cars because the buyer knows IF it breakes that the warranty will fix it, what the buyer doesnt realize is that its not a matter of IF it breaks its WHEN haha.

08-01-2007, 03:11 PM #57X2 if anything on the engine breaks on the new ones, u have to take the CAB off of the truck to work on the engine. NO JOKE. once those things are out of warranty they will be the most expensive thing to repair. it takes 3 days to replace a head. Ford dropped the ball again.BTW, stay the hell away from a ford diesel. My neighbor's on his second lemon. You can get a twin turbo 6.4L but I'd still wait a bit to see how they prove out. dodge may have a good engine, but they dont have the alisson transmission. thats probably the only reason people buy GM diesels.
i'm saying it wont qualify because i dont think they are gonna make a V6 or a 5.7 liter hemi challenger. i have only heard of the 6.1 liter 425 hp hemi going into the new challenger.Think the R/T Challenger will qualify?

Ya, I wish it had the Allison tranny. Cummins with an Allison would a perfect world.
I plan on keeping to the maintenance schedule and have Dodge techs sign off where they are supposed to in the owners manual. That way if I have any issues with the tranny I will have covered my ass.
