Pewter- 2002 Camaro SS
Shift Knob Removal
I removed mine, it was a pain but did come off w/o tools. You could probably pad some channel locks to get more grip but it should come off.
I replaced mine w/a black anodized Hurst pistol grip and a shorter stick and turned the pistol grip back toward me just a bit. The grip now comes naturally into my hand and it looks badass w/black leather interior.

Blackety Black- 35th Anniversary SS
I had the B&M t-grip shifter in my 88 IROC and i loved it. It had t-tops and didn't get too hot. It was aluminum and i think thats why it wasn't so bad. But i loved the fell slammin through gears in that thing. It's more contoured for the palm of you hand so it felt great. I have big hands and that another reason why i liked it because it filled them up. Not a big fan of the pistol grips but it looks good in those pics earlier.

Red- 2000 SS Camaro
I was searching how to remove my stock leather Hurst knob off my stock M6 SS and found these old posts. I tried like heck to twist off the knob to no avail and i'm not a weak guy. I unscrewed the hidden screws under the coin holder and ash tray and pulled the console up a bit, never undid the cigartte lighter wiring. Keeping the two mounting screws in and tight that hold the stock shift shaft to the shifter mount I borrowed one of my wife's jar opening pads, those circular things to pop lids off jars in the kitchen, and put that on the knob, then tightly wrapped a small dish towel around that in a counterclockwise motion so it would tighten as I turned it all. Grab the big ball of towel and crank it! I should have tried that first, it worked great. I installed a 6" short stick from the WS6 store along with a black Hurst shift knob. It looks great and like everyone says it feels like it should have come from the factory.
So don't use a wrench unless its your last resort, use the trick I tried and save yourself some metal shavings and heartache- the oem knob and shaft are still in perfect condition and I can reinstall it or give it to someone else to save them some cash. This is big write up for a small thing, I was just so ecstatic after searching all over for tricks and to see if there were any weird clips or pins up in there because these things are super tight from the factory.
