haha. i want the rumble!!! but yea, ill probably end up starting with a v6 temporarily... unless i can convince my parents to help me out with the money issue. so ill work on that first and if all fails, resort to the 6

I don't know the speed you shift at, but you should shift at REDLINE or a little before.
example... say im goin 55.. should i downshift into 1st? or would that produce to many RPM's for 1st? <<< YOUR STATEMENT
Problably 2nd, if your looking to get max accel, 3rd if your not commin out to hot. I'm not really sure though, its all instinct.

yea i know about the redline and all that... but im talkin about downshifting.. like if i wanted to downshift from 2nd to 1st and i was going .. lets say hypothetically .. 35 .. would shifting into 1st generate to many RPM's.. so im looking for a list of tops speeds per gear (stock gears)

Well say you are shifting from 1st to 2nd at 3,000RPM's, notice how much the RPM's drop. That is your limit when downshifting from that gear.
Practice at low speeds and see how the power comes in at certain speeds.

02-13-2007, 08:22 PM #29That's how I've been practicing and is without a doubt the best way to get a feel for it....I was just looking to see if there was an easier answer.

Red Tint Jewelcoat- 2008 Trailblazer SS
Wow. 40MPH in 1st gear with an M6 and 3.42's is nothing. It is about 4800 RPM's.
I mean...my 4.11'd car will go 47MPH in first.
Stock 3.42's with an M6...
6200 RPM's in 1st gear = 52MPH
6200 RPM's in 2nd gear = 78MPH
6200 RPM's in 3rd gear = 106MPH
6200 RPM's in 4th gear = 138MPH
You have to be able to judge when you can safely downshift though.2008 Trailblazer SS

02-13-2007, 08:29 PM #32If your gonna be one of the fast guys out there, it's got to be instinct, you can't be lookin down at the tack. You gotta listen, and before the clutch starts commin out you gotta have those R's matched for that gear, or else you loose the ass end real quick.
go karts

Probably in 1st or 2nd gear right??
I bet in 3rd gear it would show much closer to 6200.
Stock tach doesn't keep up in the lower gears that well.

1st gear can be taken up to about 40mph actually like 42mph or so. I wouldn't down shift to 1st going anything above 35. 2nd I think goes up to like 70-75mph, I never down shift into 2nd if I'm going faster than 60mph(I used to only go to 2nd if I was going like 55 but it is about how much control you've got) The closer to the shift limit the faster you've got to shift. A guy on here told me I could down shift to 2nd going 65 but that's too close to redline for me. I'd say if you're wanting to down shift to the lowest gear while doing 65-75 I'd do 3rd. Above that I don't know

yeah, whoever said 40 in 1st is at 7k is waaaaay off. i've hit 50 in 1st and my car was barely in the redline. 2nd is around 80. 3rd is around 100.
