Unsettling noise in the engine compartment.

So, there is a tapping sound in the front of the engine, near where the procharger is mounted, in the belt system, and the sound is RPM dependent.

Now, my first guess is that there is a bolt in the belt system that may have snapped, and I plan to investigate this tomorrow, but what else am I looking at possibility wise? What COULD a sound like this mean for me if I am to take it in to have it looked at? Don't want to get smacked with a heinous repair bill I can't even pay, lol. Thanks, in advance.

I have a tapping (no supercharger though) that is an exhaust leak. But a tapping could be a lifter, or a rocker arm, or something loose and vibrating.

Could also be a bearing in one of the pullies. I've had a tapping sound in then tensioner on one of my other cars for quite some time, just waiting for it to seize

See if you can further pin point the location and make sure it is in the vicinity of the belt and not the head or block......if you can.

You can also get one of those stethoscopes at the autoparts that lets you isolate where the noise is coming from.
I would certainly be more comfortable knowing where it is coming from prior to its failure. But that's just me.
