Oil leak
Hey guys, I just bought a 01 Trans am ws6. It has 107k on it, hasn't been drivin that much in the last year. Btw, I just bought it yesterday. But anyway, the guy that sold it to me mentioned that it has a small oil leak. So I drove it home, and parked it in the garage, and noticed it was dripping oil quite a bit. It looked like the oil pan was covered, and looked like it was leaking from the rear main... I mean, as I read up on these problems it looks like it is common. How do I actually diagnose it is the rear main seal? Thanks guys.

Oil leaking
I have an oil leak, that looks like it is coming from the rear main seal. How can I actually tell that it is coming from there?

Before you tear out your transmission, check this first.
Reach back on the drivers side of the intake. You should feel something about 3" long sticking up from the back of the motor that has a wire harness connected. It is your OPSU. Feel around here to see if it's leaking oil. Sometimes when they crack they spew oil down the back of the block and it looks like a rear main seal. If it's dry then the only way to confirm it's the rear main is to drop the transmission, remove the flywheel.
Now if the OPSU is cracked you have 2 options to fixing it. One is (very difficult) try to remove it without removing the intake with a OPSU socket (parts stores sell them for $10). Good Luck very hard to do unless you have small hands and are good at blind work. The other option is take the intake off, takes about 2-3 hrs for beginners and about 45mins -1.5 hr for experience guys to do.

^^ This. FWIW, I thought I had a rear main leak on our car and it turned out to be the oil pan gasket.

I head about the opsu. I can't get my hand back there. Maybe I can but a extended mirror or something to see

One more indicator that the OPSU is cracked, is your oil pressure fluctuating like bouncing around erratic without giving an revs?

If it's a manual and the clutch is original you might as well do it while your fixing the seal since you have to drop the trans. Did my rear main and clutch at the same time around 110k.

Not sure if that year had the new PCV valley plate (LS6) part of my oil leak was from the cracked PCV hose running around back side of the intake. Also my oil pan gasket was contributing factor. When I pulled my trans to replace the clutch rear main was perfect. Changed it anyhow cause I was there.

I have a nice detailed thread with pics on how to pull the transmission. Let me know if you want to tackle it and I'll post up a link. Honestly, it is not all that difficult to do.

Ok. If you take it to a shop make sure that they have the proper alignment tool to install the rear cover plate (if it does turn out to be the rear main).

Ok. How much do you think it would be if a shop were to do it
