Thread: Questions about a tune by frost

I try to answer all emails... the ones that don't are usually either covered multiple times on the site or they are something you shouldn't be asking and I can't be answering
You HAVE to understand what I am saying here.
If I get an email to the effect of: "My car has bad cats, will your tune let me pass my emissions test anyway" well; I'm not touching that with a ten foot pole. I need you to understand what I am saying here.
Yes, I got crappy nasty PCMs returned when I did exchanges. Some of them look like they were pulled out of a pond. I'm not interested in cleaning PCMs (or hearing about who's isn't dirty) so I just quit with this. When $105 gets you a new remanufactured (and CLEAN!) unit with a warranty, there isn't much saved from mailing controllers back and forth.
Thanks!

PS if your programming is stock and you have a stock stall converter and are hitting the limiter, there is something wrong with your trans. These issues almost ALWAYS begin only at WOT. They shift fine everywhere else even, and feel normal. In almost every case the trans is already hurt. This is definitely the case if the car didn't ALWAYS hit the limiter since you have owned it. If it has, then maybe it's bad programming (still not hugely likely) the whole time, but if this is something that has began since you bought it....

Hi Frost,
I want to thank you for replying to my thread. It's unfortunate I can't get a tune for my P0420 code. I do understand where your coming from and what you are saying however. I appreciate the response anyway.
PS I don't think my current programming is stock, there's a hypertech sticker on the Airlid. That might be why I'm getting screwy shifts.Last edited by Guerrillakilla13; 02-12-2014 at 12:07 PM.

I didn't say you couldn't. This should infer that I'm not touching an email with a 10 foot pole that looks like entrapment. Again, you have to understand what I was saying there... That's about all I can add to this here.

From what Orion described it appears your tune can be overwritten. I'd just send it off to Frost anyway, and if for some reason he can't, then buy a new one from him with a tune and he'll send it back, done. One way or the other you'll wind up with a good computer and a Frost tune. It will have all the bells and whistles you need

It's like buying a piece of exhaust pipe from the local exhaust shop. As long as you don't tell them why, they don't care. As soon as you tell them you are replacing a cat converter with it, they won't sell it to you. Frost is in a similar situation when dealing with any emissions codes in the computer.

You'll have to explain that one to me Orion. I know there is a joke there somewhere, but it's not registering

Our car came loaded with a Hypertech tune -- Steve (Frost) didn't have any issues re-tuning it.

You know we've been debating this for almost 2 weeks and you're running out of time. End of the month approaches. You could have already done what I mentioned and ran over to Top Gear and talked to Sean and Nic in an afternoon and had all the answers to your questions in minutes. Would have been easier for you at this point.

FirebirdJones you've been extremely helpful. As soon as Frost replied to this thread I got the last bit of confidence I needed to make a decision. I'm shipping the PCM up to Virginia.
I want to thank all of you. Really I wouldn't have done this if you all hadn't replied and helped me out here.
Looks like my poor daily driver bird is gonna be out of commission for a little while..makes me sad to think about haha.

oh okay, perfect. Thanks!
There's a huge reason why i'm so pessimistic when it comes to car-anything. About %10 of the time things will go right without another issue popping up

well....if that's the worst of your issues you're doing better than I normally do. Just cut it the rest of the way through and slide some vacuum line over it with a couple of clamps. $3 fix and about 10 minutes of your time. If that were my car I would've cut something and then the engine would've fell out. That's just how I roll.

Could I just clamp over the original cut?
hahaha i'm not alone
I sent off my PCM today. It was like saying goodbye to a girlfriend..except doing this hurt more. I'm gonna hate seeing her set in the garage, not being able to do anything.
