Wanting to paint some engine bay plastics
Was wondering what sandpaper would you use to sand engine bay plastics like the plastic on the bottom that attaches to the air lid? Not trying to remove scratches just want to sand it to remove grease and oil then paint it. Thanks!

After sanding, some "wax and grease" remover that you can get at any paint store is the best bet, followed by a wipe down with a tack cloth. I also use denatured alcohol for paint prep with good results.

1) Sand it down and clean it very well to remove all grease and oil. The part should appear very dry, and chalky looking if you have done it right.
2) Apply some adhesive promoter to the part, there are many kinds you can select from.
3) Apply a high build primer. This will cover any scratches you might have, It goes on fairly thick and gives you a lot of opportunity to sand it smooth.
4) Apply your paint and clear coat.
These steps work every time. It is not the fastest way to go, but it is the right way. And I know you do not want to do it twice.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks, Roger
